New Ruger American Striker fired pistol

I see what you mean about the trigger looking wider - I wondered about that picture - it seems like the perspective has been messed with - making the gun look thick overall - but maybe the trigger is a tad wider.

Looking at that picture - the loaded chamber indicator is gone - from the other picture, I mistook the vertical extractor pin for a horizontal loaded chamber indicator pin. That would be two mistakes in one posting so I'll sit quiet now.

The trigger blade looks wider then the SR 9.
It looks like the rails that the slide rails mate with are one piece of steel and longer then most polymer frames. The takedown is simpler then the SR9 as well and there is no magazine disconnect safety.

I'm a little dissapointed that something this nice doesn't come in a steel frame. For me, it's pretty much the CZ Shadow being the pinnacle. My Jericho will always have the number one spot as a duty, shtf type of gun, but the Shadow is so polished.

I wasn't attracted at all to the SR 9, but I'm dying to get my hands on an SR 22. Now that I've seen the reviews on the American, I'm adding it to my bucket list. It will compliment the 22 very nicely.
 
Humm, at that price tag, I might stick with a tried and tested M&P Pro series. I'm gonna wait and see what the regular Jo User says about 'em and if the triggers are typical mushy ones for striker fired pistols.
 
I don't much care for the looks. My opinion only. To me it looks too German to be called American - a hybrid between HK and Walther.
I also don't care for the price. Ruger has always made good guns for good value, I own a couple myself. For this model the retail price is well over that of a Sig P320 and way more costly than an M&P. For that reason - I'm out!
If somebody wants to give me one, I'll happily accept.

From what I understand Ruger is going to bid the new US Army pistol contract with this gun. I like the 4.2" barrel. This is not the first time Ruger has made the barrel length 4.2" for one of their handguns. Happens to be the minimum length for import into Canada. The guns are being sold at around $450US, less than the posted MRSP. They will sell well in Canada if they retail at around $650Cdn.

While the Military/LEO market is crowded there is a lot of money to be had if you win the US Army contract for the next 25 years or so. This gun likely will be as good as any in the field and maybe better than some.

The gun will have a model with a manual safety. That should send the Glock fanboys into a tizzy.

HK45auto :You are bang on and frankly most who buy their high end guns shoot no better with them than they would with any other pistol.

xdmer The M&P has the over travel stop molded into the trigger guard as well. Nothing new there.

am i the only one that thinks its strange that Ruger now has 2 guns out in direct competition against themselves?
its not like one is high end and one low end.
both are sub $500 guns.

i find that strange.

Probably but some might think one of the two guns maybe ending their production run.
