I swear I must be.
I have a prejudicial hatred for the Accutrigger, and anything remotely resembling the Accutrigger, regardless of manufacture. Don't get me wrong, I *LOVE* adjustable triggers (my .223 bolt gun wears a Rifle Basix SAV-2, and the ability to tune it down to 4 ounces is awesome, even though I have it set to about 24 ounces) but I hate that stupid ####ing blade in the middle. It justfeels wrong.Maybe it's attributed to a bad experience with an early model on a gun that wasn't even mine, but I really hate having to throw the bolt open to reset the internal "safety" if I took up the slack on the blade and lost my shot (gopher moves, wind kicks up at the wrong time) and I back off the trigger.
Granted, I might be typing out of my ass on this, but my recollection of the Accutrigger is pushing 10 years old. Yes, I've managed to avoid them and their ilk for that long.
Of the 5 bolt guns I've owned over the years, all but one of them have had standard triggers with or without some form of adjustment. The only exception is my Enfield, and it has a 2 stage which I happen to be somewhat fond of. And of course, the one Remington I owned was so fussy to get shooting well that I'm not willing to venture down that road again, unless it's a 788 (borrowed one once and it ran like a hot damn.)
Given that I'm in the market for a budget (sub $500) bolt gun in .308 right now, it means my options are pretty limited, since you can't buy a Savage without one, Ruger has one, Mossberg has one, and Remington sucks. Did I miss any manufacturers? Probably.
Yes, I know the Axis (not Axis II) doesn't have the Accutrigger, but I'm not sure I like the feel of the stock, and I'm too cheap to start modifying a budget rifle that will spend most of its time rattling around in the back seat of my truck.
I sure do miss the days of the Stevens 200. That really was a great rifle, and I won't be parting with my .223 any time ever.
