Am I truly THAT effing weird? (one man's rant)

Necropost!!!

But for the record, the accu-trigger is crap, in any form. I have a feeling that all those praising it have never fired a rifle with an actual good clean crisp trigger.

Your feeling is wrong. I have all kinds of time behind match grade triggers, even down to a few ounces. I like the accutrigger and would put the one in my Precision Carbine up against anything.

Dafuq? I've only seen it the other way around not too many people sing the virtues of something they've never tried. And in the gun nut world its usually those that haven't tried ### rifle or ### trigger that don't like them.

Dafuq yourself lol. I have owned 4, have one left, on a 22 mag. Yup, they were all crap triggers compared to almost anything.

Is the centerfire and the rimfires blades any different? I removed mine from my 93 22 mag altogether. Made for a really nice, crisp normal single stage.

I have heard about this here on the forums before, might try it tonight. Any tips?

I've got a rimfire and centrefire AT never looked real close and not for a while but they're the same but different scale iirc. I don't mind the stupid blade thing. I've shot probably my best ever groups ever with a model 12 vlp 223 so they're not a hindrance to me at least.

I swear I must be.

I have a prejudicial hatred for the Accutrigger, and anything remotely resembling the Accutrigger, regardless of manufacture. Don't get me wrong, I *LOVE* adjustable triggers (my .223 bolt gun wears a Rifle Basix SAV-2, and the ability to tune it down to 4 ounces is awesome, even though I have it set to about 24 ounces) but I hate that stupid ####ing blade in the middle. It justfeels wrong.Maybe it's attributed to a bad experience with an early model on a gun that wasn't even mine, but I really hate having to throw the bolt open to reset the internal "safety" if I took up the slack on the blade and lost my shot (gopher moves, wind kicks up at the wrong time) and I back off the trigger.

Granted, I might be typing out of my ass on this, but my recollection of the Accutrigger is pushing 10 years old. Yes, I've managed to avoid them and their ilk for that long.

Of the 5 bolt guns I've owned over the years, all but one of them have had standard triggers with or without some form of adjustment. The only exception is my Enfield, and it has a 2 stage which I happen to be somewhat fond of. And of course, the one Remington I owned was so fussy to get shooting well that I'm not willing to venture down that road again, unless it's a 788 (borrowed one once and it ran like a hot damn.)

Given that I'm in the market for a budget (sub $500) bolt gun in .308 right now, it means my options are pretty limited, since you can't buy a Savage without one, Ruger has one, Mossberg has one, and Remington sucks. Did I miss any manufacturers? Probably.

Yes, I know the Axis (not Axis II) doesn't have the Accutrigger, but I'm not sure I like the feel of the stock, and I'm too cheap to start modifying a budget rifle that will spend most of its time rattling around in the back seat of my truck.

I sure do miss the days of the Stevens 200. That really was a great rifle, and I won't be parting with my .223 any time ever.
never liked the accutrigger

I prefer a single set trigger on my bolt action rifles and go out of my way to try and only buy rifles that offer such a trigger now. Use becomes second nature once you have it on your rifles and I find it is a huge asset in accuracy when moving targets and single projectiles are concerned.

Sometimes I wonder if the accu-trigger haters even know what an accu-trigger is...maybe some are confusing it with the old savage trigger and just think all savage triggers are called the accu-trigger.

I will weigh in...... I have two boys one 5, one 11.... The training for both boys has occurred on a rascal with accutigger..... I am not a fan of it, but I will say that it is nice to teach them what to do at first resistance... But that is on targets......

For me, the accutigger has been a traing system that later gets quickly ignored...... It had its place on the range, but when we hunt my land this year (my oldest is reaching apprentice age), the accutigger will go away....

I have a love-hate relationship with the Accu-trigger. The worst trigger I have ever dealt with was that lawyer approved POS on my former 2011 Savage 10BA. A great rifle with a horror story for a trigger. If I breathed the wrong way that damn thing would lock up. I took a close friend to my range to test that rig out (it was his first experience firing a gun) and it was one embarrassing experience! On the other side of the equation is the Accu-trigger on my 2010 Savage MKII BTVSS. It has been 100% flawless, and the rifle is a tack driver. So, I kept the MKII and sold (at an extreme loss, with full disclosure) the 10BA. Yes, I could have bought a new trigger, but I just wanted that rifle gone--bad juju.

I wonder if Savage changed the Accu-trigger in 2011 to some lawyer approved mechanism?
