We raised fallow deer on the farm and we harvested them with a 22 rim fire. 20 .meters head shots .Thy were spooky animals .so we would put sweet feed in the trough and shot them from the corner of the barn out if sight from them to keep them calm .ruger 10 22 .with a good scope .never had a problem. Same with beef .people sometimes forget jusy what a rimfire can do ...Dutch

Strange as this may seem, I have shot a moose with a lesser cartridge than any deer.

I harvested a moose in 196X with one shot from a 22 WRM. She had a broken leg, but appeared in good shape otherwise.
Took her down rather than have the wolves do their niceties on her.

Personally I have only shot deer with 2 calibers, smallest being .270 and largest (ha!) 30-30. Pretty tame selection there.

Dad shot his first deer back in the 60's with a 25-20, definitely not a bang-flop proposition!

Lots of people here have been hunting LONG before the current rule set. I hunt with fellas that hunted as far back as the 40's and 50's, things were different back then, not even that far back. And lots have hunted outside of their own province, and country.

Your right it is illegal to hunt deer with a 22 lr .
But I used to hunt deer with a 22lr all the time wen I was a kid we new it was against law ,but when you're a kid you really don't Think about consequences

I've taken a small whitetail buck with my 22-250, the biggest I've taken a deer with was a nice doe with my 300wm. Both deer were hit in the lungs and both died within a couple yards of being shot.

The 243, first moose as well. Then 375 Rum as the largest. Carried a H&H for a number of years, the Rum for much of the last 10. Lately a lightweight 06' in the south province.

Every deer I ever shot with the 22LR or 22 WMR was on shot drop. Not that I advocate it, or have done it in a LONG time.
