E-111 Petition to Derestrict the AR15

Yeah, I'm not surprised it got moved but I do think this belongs in black rifles as well. It directly applies to the most popular one.

I never go to the general or political discussion forum myself. I have to assume other CGNers similarly do no scan all of the sub-forums.

Many stay out of the Black Rifle forum as well.

This petition should be visible at the top of every pages so everyone see it and sign it as a community wheter or not they own one

AR15 non restricted Petition

Hi all

I do know that this has been posted in several other places in the forums, but to those that haven't seen it:

Petition to the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness

Whereas:
The current firearm legislation classifies the semi-auto Armalite Rifle - 15 and variants as restricted when there is no inherent difference between it and that of hundreds or thousands of other firearms in Canada which have been, in due process, classified as non-restricted;
The restriction on the AR-15 and its variants prohibits the use of this semi-automatic modern sporting rifle from being used for lawful purposes such as hunting;
This rifle has been ultimately restricted purely because of cosmetic appearance of the rifle which does not make the rifle more dangerous. It has been assembled with modern day materials (plastic & aluminium) and that shouldn't be the merit to base a rifle for restricted classification as there are thousands of other rifles like it used on a day to day basis for legitimate purposes;
This rifle is the most versatile hunting rifle in the world. The calibre can easily be changed to meet lawful provincial hunting requirements from small game to big game animals without the need to purchase multiple gaming rifles; and
The Armalite Rifle - 15 was in fact legal to hunt with before the mid 1990's firearm classification changes and we hunters would like that opportunity restored.

We, the undersigned, Lawful Firearm Owners of Canada, request (or call upon) the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness to Re-classify the Armalite Rifle - 15 back to non-restricted status so we can once again use this rifle to lawfully participate in the Canadian cultural practices of hunting.

Make sure that you have a valid email to confirm your signature.

We should show the government that we all have one unified voice when it comes to lawful firearms ownership

This is a big one. Probably the biggest one of them all when it comes to classes. If we can make progress on this, it opens up many other more factual alignments as well. This goes both ways though perhaps, good and bad. This one probably has the most public visibility, all the antis are afraid of the black rifles and the AR15 is indeed the most recognizable. Most of those people still probably don't know there are more than one kind of 'black' rifle and that there are many black rifles not restricted. My whole family signed.

Online petitions carry no weight against govt's, only private corporations. The sad reality is that these types of petitions could have a signature from every PAL holder in Canada, and changes would still not be made on the basis of "public safety". Want to make change? Get involved in politics and work from within.

Last year the Government of Canada decided to recognize the the legitimacy of E-Petitions that is why this particular online system was created on the Parliament of Canada's website and must have a sitting MP as sponsor, the popularity of Petition doesn't automatically becomes law, but the government is obligated to formally address the topic during a parliamentary session.

Newbie here. So if by chance it does get reclassified, my Ar 14.5" would still be a restricted FA due to its barrel length?

Signed as well. Also made sure my wife did too.
