WOLF definitely in my opinion. The third tree in from the left has a branch that is over the wolves back by about 6". The picture with the two deer has that same branch over the deer's back with a little more space. If you notice the plant with the dark leaves in the foreground of each picture this will give one a perspective that the deer and wolf are standing on approximately the same plot of ground.
That wolf is tall, at least as tall as that deer at the back. It is not a huge deer but judging the height relationship between the two animals and the characteristics and shape of the wolves head, I would surely say that is 100% wolf.

I'm in wmu 48 just north of Algonquin. To who ever was saying the yote and wolf are on small game is true but in some wmu such as mine you need to get a yote/wolf tag

I think it is a wolf, but now a days with all the hybridization going on the only way to tell for sure is to get a DNA test.

If you want to see a cool documentary look up the Nature of Things : Meet the Coywolf (its CBC please dont BAN me for the suggestion).

SHUT DOWN THE SOCIALIST THE CBC!

...there does that even it out?

Sorry brad, I wasn't picking on you or trying to single out anyone, it just surprises me that people can't see that's a 150 lb wolf. The coloring may resemble a coyote, but it's still the typical colors of a grey wolf, although a variant.

No offence taken.... and now on the big screen, i don't think the coloring is coyote either.....

Eastern (Timber) Wolf.

I don't profess to be an expert, but sure looks like Canis lupus lycaon to me. The picture subject fits the description and locale, and appears sufficiently different from Canis latrans .
As to a hybrid ... a picture isn't enough to displace DNA testing.

Although I can't recall seeing a coyote without a black or dark-tipped tail (and likely someone else has) I've seen a number of wolves with a black or dark tip.

I think the OP's posted picture is definitley a wolf.

Not to hijack this thread, but what do you guys think of this guy? I'm thinking possible hybrid as its much larger then the local coyotes and paw prints in the snow on this guy were at least 50% larger then then others. Its standing in fairly deep snow, so its hard to gauge its height in these pics. I'll have to see if I can find the photos captured with other yotes and the picture of the paw print size difference.

That one looks like a hybrid or yote, most likely a hybrid if it's that large.

I have to agree with you. Its substantially larger then the yotes, but not as large as what one would expect from an adult wolf. Unless its a juvenile wolf..im leaning toward a hybrid of some sort. I havent yet captured a photo of it since March so we'll see if its put on additional size since.

Are you guys serious? This next set is obviously a wolf aswell. Look at the ear proportions. Look at the width of its nose.

What is making you guys say coyote?

There are less than a hand full of wild hybrids ever seen, and those where in the deep south of the US years ago.
