Wolf or coyote?

The Eastern Wolf and Coyote have the same strain of genes and are closely mixed up. I would have to say that the picture is of a young eastern wolf.

It's pretty clear in my home WMU... 65...... But up near tweed, where my hunt camp is, the lines get blurred.....

I harvested a wolf there and it was really clear the me that it was a wolf...... This pic doesn't convince me that it is a wolf..... But who knows?

Take a second look at those legs. If that's a yoke it's a world record. Not even close.

No black tail tip, never seen a yote without that. Head isn't coyote profile either.

I've seen examples of all of the possibilities enough times to so say hybrid... Reason being that I've seen timber wolves and they are a lot bigger then what the pic is showing - so that's off the list. Having been out west I've seen a lot of yotes and they seem smaller then what passes as a yote here in Ontario. The grey wolf is a possibility but - it seems like it has features of both a yote and a wolf so I'd have to stick with hybrid due to the size. Without knowing for sure - wolves are more commonly known to travel in a pack. Yotes can and do travel as singles, a pair or sometimes will converge on a kill if they are close enough to it and if they are accepted at the kill site. A few more details of the pic might add weight to the opinion.

Study those pics a bit more, the camera is in the exact same location for the first two pics, and same distance but angled left a bit more for the dos picture. That is NOT a small canine. It is definitely a large wolf.

I am just a simple country girl but I have 2 coyotes mounted and 3 wolves and in my opinion it's a wolf !!! Here is a picture of my coyotes..

My first thought was a yote but after looking at the first and last picture closely, I change my mind and say wolf, too big for a coyote....

Isn't Algonquin park and the surrounding WMU's verboten for both coyote and wolf hunting? Used to be like that when I lived in Ontario because of the protected population of Eastern Red wolves living in the park. Rules may have changed since.

When I go back and forth looking at those pictures it looks to me like it is at least as tall at the shoulders as that deer. That is not small.

Head and ears are a definite give away, and as H4831 says the tail posture tells as well it is definitely a wolf. The legs are also way too long and heavy for a coyote............but the head and ears are an absolute.............WOLF.

I just took another good look and compared it to the deer which is standing in nearly the same spot.........that is a big dog, not a monster wolf but at least twice too big to be a coyote

I'm doing my preceptorship with kawartha lakes ems and have heard of a few wolves being shot recently in the burnt river area.
