I think the return of the Canadian dollar to its natural value against the US is going to change the discussion of value proposition pretty drastically.
I've already seen $1700 price tag on a Winchester M70 Extreme.

Another big Model 70 fan here. They're terrific rifles!
The Tikkas have just never done it for me.
Comparing a Tikka to an M70 is like comparing a Cavalier to a Cadillac....
The Cavalier will get you where you need to go ... The Cadillac will get you where you need to go in style...
The difference is that a Cavalier doesn't cost almost as much as a Cadillac.....
I think it's more of a Subaru Forester Vs. Toyota 4Runner.
Neither is the pinnacle of luxury, both do what you need done. One is "better" and more expensive.

I was on the fence about that when I bought the 70. All my other rifles have the detachable magazine, and I always liked that. Turned out I don't mind the floor plate at all.Lots and lots of great replies.
I have had at least 5 CRF featherweights in the past 3 wood stainless (2-270win & a 308win) and a wood blued 280 rem and wood blued 243 WSSM all shot well and I've never had a rifle that fit me better and I really like the 3 position safety and CRF. It is the drop hinge mag that is the breaking point. Everytime I have to fumble about with the loose cartridges when loading and unloading it frustrates me. I know the benefits of the drop hinge mag but none of them overcomes the convenience of the detachable mag for me. I grew up with detachable mags and I have 2-3 mags for every gun as I just find it a really convent way to carry my extra ammo. I have never forgotten one, lost one or had one fall out on me and I have 2-3 mags for every gun as I just find it a really convent way to carry my extra ammo, I'm sure others have though and it certainly is a possibility.
I've had several t-3's over the years as well ranging from 300WSM to 243's and they all functioned perfectly and shot really well, but they are very generic and lifeless firearms to me, never was able to form an attachment to them, so that is why I'm torn.
I thank everyone for there replies so far, it is giving me plenty to reflect on.
Cadillac isn't really high luxury anymore either but is more so then a cavalier or alike
And these guns are both built way better than any GM product just sayin...
I wouldn't take one of those Winchester Featherweights to a dog fight. Ghey lookin' things!
lapmi would dress that m70 ft in leather chaps and dance the night away...
