Safe to use slightly corroded surplus?

I ordered a crate of Hirtenberger 308 and noticed a strong musty smell when i opened the crate. Wasn't too concerned as the rounds are in a thick vinyl sleeve and the vacuum still seemed in tact. Just to be sure i opened two boxes from each sleeve to check them out. Definitely more than the was on the batch I bought which was packaged in 240 rd boxes, but I dont know if its cause for concern. I did a quick sort/ grading based on how clean they were. I would say 25% of the rounds have only light to medium black/green ish tarnish on them, ~65% has light/medium black/green tarnish and 1 small spot of wihte/pink corrosion. The last 10% has 2 spots of the pink corrosion and/or in general looks pretty sketchy. What are your thoughts on how safe this is to use?

That's for sure!! I am busy cleaning up some ugly Yugo surplus right now. Some are duds, so after attempt to fire, I pull the bullets and load powder and bullet into new boxer brass with a wee bit less powder than what came out of the old round. The really bad stuff goes straight to the bullet puller. Some have copper colored bullets and some are nickel colored.

The odd nickel colored one is corroded (got a bit wet), so the are not useable. I eat them for breakfast...:p
 
Ive had stuff looking (and smelling) worse than that coming out of the crate. Plenty of hangfires, and a few duds...at first. Then I took a batch in of those same rounds in a well sealed container in the rear cargo box of my quad and that day was full of bumps, ruts and a few jumps. When I got to the pit later in the day, I loaded up those old rounds and BOOM, every one fired without issue. Guess shaking them up made them "fresh" again ;)

No problem with live rounds. I use crushed walnut for a media, with a capful of NuFinish Car Polish(not wax).
Blend it in for about ten minutes before adding ammo, and throw in a used "Bounce" sheet cut into four strips, to reduce dust..

Were they the same ones that would not fire ??

We have seen it scientificly demonstrated that tumbling will not affect or cause safety issues with live ammo. This topic comes up a lot.

This is my second attempt at becoming a big mouth with 1000 posts, so please, nobody take issue with my post here.:slap:
