Slavia 618

My older brother's 630 is now my 630. I think he got it in the late 80s or early 90s.

I got a spring & seal on here, revitalized the old thing.

Just picked up 2 618s from airgunforum.ca Nice shooters and seem to deliver proper velocity and accuracy, but both rear sights are out of elevation adjustment and still hitting 4 inches high at 10 meters.

One rifle has a pin front sight, the other has the usual dovetail and post.

Any suggestions how to increase the height of the front sights?

FWIW, these oldies are about as accurate as my newer CZ630s.

thanks in advance

I have a Telly, had Slavias as well.

You guys are going to laugh but I just picked up a Chinese .177 break all metal NO plastic from Princess Auto for 25.00!! My kid loves it, really accurate reminds of early Com Block 70s air rifles.

Blued steel, grooved for a scope, hardwood stock.

Me and my buddys bought 5 of them for our kids, pellets on sale as well for 4.00.

I don't have a picture but the easiest way is to straighten a barrel is to take the action out of the stock.Make a cradle with a 2x4 for the base, use two blocks the distance from the rear of the barrel and the other behind the front sight.Place a cut piece of garden hose over the area to be straightened.A large enough to slide over the barrel and hose "I" bolt is placed over the hose then drill a hole through the 2x4 base for a large washer and nut on the underside. You may have to drift out the front sight to get it to fit. As this is tightened the barrel will bend and you can adjust where and how until it is close enough without messing up the barrel or bluing...does this make sense?..use a square to check for straightness as you progress.Harold

Not a 618 but I have had my father's 624 from his youth for some time and now letting my nephew use well teaching him safety and having fun too! Better then the new junk all the times camping friends would rather swap new co2 stuff to get a chance to use this oldie but goodie...

Thanks easyrider if anything the barrels got a hint of "lift"? I duno doesn't sag. Anyone know the stock material type? I refinished this 624 wood.

Try laying a straight-edge like a 4 ft long bubble level on top of the spring chamber/tube and it will be easy to see if barrel droops or lifts. Yes I believe it's a beechwood stock.

Both my 618s still shoot 1.5 inches high at 10 meters and my rear sight is already at lowest setting, shooting Crosman Field Hunting pointed 7.4 grain. Any suggestions?

Original sights are the only thing that's missing off mine and well the original enamel.

Also kinda tough to gauge how far out it shoots with out them but it's damn near perefect...any idea where I could look to find some sights? A friend suggested flea markets but that's quite an investment of time. There's got to be somebody who knows somebody into slavia and has parts. ...

Try placing wanted ad on the EE. Considering how cheap these old air guns are it may not be worth the cost of replacement new or old sights.

Do you need front or rear sights?

I got my 618s for 35 $ and 45 $ only.

Nah I don't need but it's only parts missing. And both are missing ..this was nothing more then a toy for my father 50 plus years ago. So purchase price would be original retail way back when other then that I have probably spent more on pellets in my life with it then the things even worth.

But it would be cool to have it all back together...

The little Slavia I had when I was a kid had a pretty poor rear sight. As I recall I ended up taking it off and it got lost.

Wore out two of them when i was a kid. Shot sparrows, muskrats, gophers, mice, grasshoppers, crickets, flys, blackbirds, and pidgeons when the old caretaker at the drive-in theater would let us in behind the enclosed screen. He breasted them out and took them home for a meal. Likewise my old neighbour once asked for a bunch of sparrows for sparrow pie. Brought him back a paper grocery bag full of 50 sparrows. As I remember it, the breast was about the size of a mans thumbnail. These guys probably grew up through the dirty '30s.

Used to open the tin of Beatle? brand pellets and pop a good handful of them into my mouth for a quick and ready supply. I preferred the Beatle brand pellets over the Crossman because 1) they were pointed and 2) they were not lubricated. Lead poisoning never even dawned on me and look I turned out all right, can spell and all!

Mom and Dad were happy as I was out of their hair from sun-up to sun-down. We lived on the edge of town so it was easy to get out and be gone the whole day. Only had the local constabulary drive me home twice, not because I shot their windows out or anything, but some do-gooder spotted me with a rifle and complained.

I shot a Slavia when I was a kid. This summer I picked up a tired 630 from Elwood Epps for about $70. Threw about $30 worth of seals and mainspring into it and it shoots like a champ.
