Win model 21 value?

Speaking of M21's, given how ugly those guns are and how overbuilt for hunting they are and how few people who are serious about it use a SxS for any of the clays games, it amazes me these things still command the money they do. The strength of the receiver was pure marketing hype that lives on to this day, performing little of use that isn't accomplished by all other quality receivers.
It's the "Winchester Disease." Put that logo on anything and prices goes to places that defy common sense. Even their POS guns made in Spain and Italy command ridiculous prices.

I recall seeing a Winchester Model 21 on the rack at Churchill's in West Wycombe. Among the English game guns the Winchester looked like an ugly fat chick at a super model's convention.

I will play for a minute The ones that bad mouth the 21 have clearly never owned one or took a good look at one. Plain and simple

You can still dream about them however ;) and keep saving your pennies and perhaps the mrs will sell you one when I pass
And yes pennies since mine will be sold state side in US dollars
:)

Which will likely become easy to do, cause once Trump gets in............

Uhmmmm, I have at least 5 SxS in my safe worth more than most Win21's. Don't need to save my pennies if I wanted one. And while I have never owned one, I have taken a good look at a few. In fact, taking a good look at them may be the problem. No reason I can think of to pay too much for an ugly gun. Lots of guns do things well.

I think it's more that I didn't drink the Kool-aid.

You have some very expensive SXS's then considering a 20ga Model 21 skeet now demands almost 10K US.
I am glad you are happy with your collection as am I . As ugly as you think they are one thing is for sure the Model 21 will always bring top dollars state side since The Model 21 represents the pinnacle of American double gun design to this day
The pennies was a joke did you not see the smily face :)
Cheers

Okay, I exaggerated slightly. But not by much. On GunsInternational , the first 100 or so M21's, in a variety of configurations are listed between $3.5K and $7K. Most of those are listed by gun dealers, including many, like Connecticut Shotgun, who are known within the double gun world as having ridiculous asking prices. By and large all of these guns will sell for less than the listing price.

And you are correct....I missed the smiley face.

But they are still ugly.;)

Parker and Fox would certainly disagree with that declaration. Although calling anything the pinnacle of American double gun design is damning with faint praise. There is nothing about the Model 21 that the rest of the world wasn't doing better decades before.

It's the Rosie O'Donnell of double shotguns. Ugly, overweight and overvalued. ;)

Hang around the doublegunshop forum and you will hear that over and over and over even chucky says it ;)
Cheers

I've owned Parker's, L.C. Smith's, A.H. Fox's, 1894 & 1901 Remington's, LeFever, Belgium doubles, a Winchester M24 and two Winchester Model 21's. . Aside from Winchester M21 and AH Fox; all the other doubles had too much drop on the stocks.

The one's I kept are my two Winchester M21's and an HE Grade A.H. Fox. . I found the M21's to be the best handling and best balanced of them all. The M21's, for me, are an easy carrying shotgun that comes up on target quick, remains tight and are just flat out better built than the others. . . The H.E. Grade A.H. Fox is a 3" chamber gun (Super Fox). . It's built like a tank, heavy but well balanced. You're always going to have the nay sayers , with anything, but I prefer my M21's and I don't doubt I'm in good company. .

Another point with the M21 is a more modern design than the other American made SxS shotguns. . The M21 was John Olin's pet project as the Olins were duck and upland hunters as well as makers of ammunition and firearms. . The M21 was on the drawing board before Winchester went bankrupt but was built after the Olins took Winchester over from bankrupcy. The M21 uses a simpler design with coil springs and I find them easier to take down than the others. . The single trigger on the M21 is breeze to work on. .The whole gun design and the way it's built, in my experience, is a superior design and build over the others. . The M21 was proofed to 150% of maximum loading. . The A.H. Fox is a well built gun, as well, but more complicated in design.

Drop me a line when you decide you are done with the HE. ;) Although I own 4 Foxes right now, I only handled my first HE last fall. What a gun!

I have always thought that it is tough to compete with canvasback when it comes to turning a phrase, BUT, I see that Claybuster might be up to the task !!

Pete, thanks for the compliment. I do have to admit, I chuckled pretty good when I read Claybuster's posts.

As may have been obvious, I was getting tired of the "Which is better...a Yugo or a Trabant" kind of threads and was looking to stimulate a discussion on an American classic. An ugly classic but a classic nonetheless. Thanks for chiming in guys.
