Current Surplus Ammunition Costs

Is it possible all the surplus coming from overseas the countries transact in us$. If they traded in the euro we'd do ok. But against the green our currency isn't faring well.
All the more reason to support Canadian reloaders/manufacturers. Sure material costs are up but our labour rates are unchanged and paid in cad$.
I stopped by local Walmart today , win 555 in .22lr was ~ $25 a box last month it's now $36. That's substantial and tied solely to exchange.

Reading this post made me purchase a crate of 7.2x54r from Tradex. I dont shoot it a lot but its nice to have the ammo when prices are still relatively low.
I see the prices are moving up at different places. Do you work for Tradex or something? You sure motivated me lol

I miss the days of 300 $ 1000 223 cases.
I am glad though I stocked up on a few cases I commonly shoot a lot of.

I just recieved my crate of x39, all the other suppliers followed suit, I have enough to wait out the increase due to our dollar, a couple years but will take advantage of any sales that come up. In the meantime I will delve into the .223 world in case these rifles and ammo continue to rise!

I get excited every time I see the CanAmmo ad at the top. Then disappointment...
I believe they are trying to turn themselves around in regards to ammo availability and price. With their name ( CANADA AMMO) and rep for low priced good value, they need to be the leader in price quality and variety. I just got 1000 rounds of PMC .45 acp, that was with their DA 1911 and 500 rounds for $352!! They are also starting into Reloading supplies, powder is in stock and they are ordering a bunch more, hopefully in bulk and at good prices. I think you will see more and more Ammo in stock rather than out of stock and I am hoping x39 and x54 will be among them!

I have a problem that I'm sure most of us have faced. Save up for a new gun that I really really really really really really really really want, or load up on ammo because the price is only going up. :(

You have to sit down and figure out how much ammo you plan to use over time! Will you use a lot or just a little, chill the gun you want be there in a year at the same price,, maybe more maybe less! If the gun can wait get the ammo, if not get the gun! However, a firearm without ammo is a crappy boat anchor!

Well I want one of the last CZ 858's Wolverine is bringing in so no it won't, lol. But at the same time the Norinco 308 will run out soon too. Why can't I just be a multi-millionaire?

What is a good price for Norinco 308....buddy found for 1k for $499+tax...I thought that was crazy!!??.....is it really or that normal? technically .50 per round I guess

Just few weeks ago I checked price for 7.62x54R and it was $300.Today I see it's $350! Is there any connection to Canadian dollar or it's "because we can"?

Retailers buy lots of surplus at a time (container, half a container, etc) at a fixed price. As they get low on stock or when competitors raise their prices, the price is raised accordingly with with laws of supply and demand.

Buy it cheap and stack it deep.

Yeah I need some more too as I'll typically shoot a couple hundred rounds and go to the range every two weeks or so 1400 rounds lasts about 3 months!

I've watched 30.06 surplus run out. 303 surplus run out, and 8mm run out.

My advice to anyone is buy good when the buying is good. The only price change you will have will be an increase.

I picked up extra X39 when it was 110 bucks/crate. Last year I refilled the stack of x54r when it was just under 200 bucks. I still have some 30.06, .303, and 8mm surplus from decades ago. I wished I had grabbed more 308 and 223 when I had the chance. Such is luck, none of it has gone down in price.
