7.62x39 is the only confirmed calibre as of yet, but they have been manufactured in 5.56 as well.

That would be me, it was in the late 90s, we shot bottles in a prison fishpond, unfortunately it was quite awhile ago so I don't remember much details about the gun.

They actually let you shoot their gun? I'm very surprised. Apparantly now you can't even take pics of Chinese soldiers

Definitely not in larger cities, It was a prison in a small rural village in Jiangxi, the place is also known for it's freshwater pearls, my family was there on a pearl buying trip we were given a tour by the village head who is also in charge of some of the prison business I believe, rules were also pretty relaxed back then.

lol... Sounds like the start of a funny movie. The village head also owns all the prisons?

Cool story, how did the type 81 shoot? Was it full auto?
 
Haha maybe, who knows, it's quite normal there because the one party rule, the viliage head was an army officer, and Chinese prisons were ran by military.

It was one of the guard's rifle so it would've been full auto, it was my first time shooting so I was handed the rifle and I shot semi only, I didn't even ask to try full auto because I was too excited.
I knew nothing about guns then so obviously I didn't check the trigger pull, reset, muzzle rise etc, I just kept on yanking the tigger:D
