Someone krylon'ed a DD Mk18?
Jesus Christ, tactical stupidity knows no bounds....
I would take the thing apart. Complete dissasembly, magazine catch, bolt catch, forward assist et al and all and soak it with Acetone.
You may get her back to 80% but from personal experience (cleaning some AR parts I got which some idiot also hit with spray paint....) it may leave some weird grey discoloration.
Acetone soaking all parts is your best bet and scrub it with a cloth after full disassemble.
Paint stripper if it doesn't work
Didn't front line deployed soldiers and special operations folks used to krylon their guns and gear? I wonder if it's good enough for people that use it for actual work why is it not good enough for people that punch paper holes at ranges....?
You do a lot of "front line deployments" with your restricted AR? lol
Camo'ing up your rifle is as ### in the armed forces as it is in civilian life. Like someone already said in this thread alone, "if they're close enough to see your paint job, you missed"
If you like a BBQ paint finish on your $2K personal rifle by all means spray away Sir, I think it's idiotic personally but that's just me. You may also one day think so if you ever decide to try and sell it and get your money back....
Most of the dudes at ranges are just role playing as a hobby, especially in Canada, just saying it seems legit.
Many of those folks do not worry about resale they do wear out their junk pretty fast, spending 3 days a week throwing thousands of rounds down range.
I agree with you if one belongs to the other black gun crowd, namely the photo ops Barbie flawless gun crowd, "oh my goodness there is a finger print on my baby!"
Man I hear you on that though, if I could even afford a DD MK18 I would be afraid to put a scratch on the brass deflector let alone have the balls to blast it with ghetto paint lol
That's why I buy cheap reliable stuff so I can beat the s**t out of itI'm a user of guns. Mine are all well worn, scarred and beat to hell.
I have spoken to many a friend CF Weapon Tech who do have some funny insight into "spray painted" Colts. Some are on this very forum!
I've had luck with hoppes #9 solvent. Strong enough to remove the paint but not overkill where it messes with the guns original finish too much.
Will acetone mess with the original finish?
