Picked this up ,sticker price at dealer was 3800.00 wonder if this is a realistic price, probably going to flip it .
Well used gun it looks like, lever functions ,trigger fires, stocks do not show any cracks when twisted but there might be some hair line surface ones,20 inch barrel No pitting in bore ,will see more once cleaned.
Got it for a steal, I hope was thinking if dealer wanted 3800 I should be able to get 2500 and make a little Let me know what u think ???

With a 20" barrel, there is a high probability it has been cut down. I would most certainly find out the factory info from Cody before I bought that rifle. If it is all original, then a 20" barrel would be quite rare. But if it has been cut down, I would not even pay $2,000 for it. I can't say what it is worth if original, I've sold a couple, but not in recent years, so I'm a bit out of touch with the market up here in Canada.

who or what is cody The barrel doesnt appear cut has same patina and front sight looks original

The Cody Firearms Museum in the U.S. has the old Winchester records that still exist. For a small fee they will send you the Winchester factory info on your rifle saying what configuration it left the factory in. A 20 inch model 76 was not a factory offering so if genuine and original it would have been a special order rifle. Chances are it has been cut perhaps 70 or 80 years ago which would explain the patina. If cut it is just a shooter and the value will be low, much less than the prices given in my opinion. From the photos it is cut off, the magazine hanger is too far back and the front sight dovetail center should be one inch from the muzzle face. Magazine length is oddball as well to me. I wouldn't touch it.

measured the front sight from muzzle it is 1 inch <I see want you mean by mag tube length haven't seen one like that either it could of been damaged and they just cut it shorter but like you said they did do special orders I have found ones with 20 and 22 inch barrels but they have been round not hex Maybe Ill just put it up on EE and see what happens Try and get my money out of it
tks

Yes, both the barrel and the magazine tube have been cut back. And, if the dealer had a sticker price of $3800 but was able to sell it to you at a price where at $2500, you think you can make a little, than most likely the dealer knew the gun was cut too. Mike was correct when he said the magazine hanger was sat too far back. Good luck with it.
