Gophers

Alberta gophers can only be killed by Albertans.

LOL. I beg to differ.... farmers love me and my buddy's out your way as we come in and drive them out via the business ends of our armament. Changed the fluids in my truck yesterday for its yearly cross Canada adventure to head back out to beautiful Alberta to gopher hunt till our barrels glow red.. a few farmers stock up all winter on ammo for us and we spend weeks out in the fields managing their scurge... I'm all giddy to get moving and start gopher vaporizing.

Funny you say that, how many people were born in Alberta?
Not very many compared to todays population.

I was, both my parents were, 3 out of 4 of my grandparents were. The 4th was an early (1910) import from Saskatchewan, but he was a good farmboy and a hard worker, so was forgiven for his origins. ;)

Oh, man... Unless there's a late frost and die off, that means this year will be a target rich environment.

Excuse me a moment while I go check my ammo stockpile...

grelmar~if you added up how much rimfire ammo I've shot in my whole life...it probably wouldn't amount to what I have in stock at the moment. Why? I'm leading a 2-man gopher-slaying expedition to AB this spring. 8 day trip with my nephew...I simply can't wait. Yes...I will post a detailed, photo-ridden report. :)

Don't kill them all, I'm planning a trip to Alberta in May and I want to dust some myself.

^Nice...another Ontarian heading west! :)

^lol...I'm sure most are. Still a HUGE novelty to this Ontario groundhog hunter though. In 2014 I spent 2-1/2 days shooting them....and I can honestly say I can't ever remember having so much fun. Allot more time, and allot more ammo this time.

Got a call to go do some mending on a greenhouse on a relative's property this weekend. Will take my Papoose and do a bit of scouting. You never know.

Born in Alberta here as well. I don't mind letting them shoot "my" share. It isn't like gophers are the buffalo of yester-year. Besides the falcons, coyotes, wolves, etc need to eat too. Forgot to add that my daughter is born in Alberta and she is sweet as pie, my son is born in Ontario and he is a devil. Too bad the wife says I have to love them equally. :)

Living in Ontario and having met some fine Albertans....I find that very easy to believe. :) We're not all bad out here...granted, I grew-up in New Brunswick. :)

I find that as a general rule, the further north of Ottawa you get, the more connected to reality the people become. Have in-laws in Toronto and Deep River, guess who's more likely to offer (and have accepted), the use of a spare room for a visit, so the family can all keep in touch?

I will be contacting my landowners in the next few weeks, and when the ground squirrels are out in force, I will start shooting them on a regular basis. I should be able to get rid of a few thousand this year.

Went out last Tuesday and bagged 6 off highway 810 in Alberta at a family friends cattle ranch. Tried out my new outta box 10/22. Already got the itch for the 10/22.

Been busy as all get out at home but my phone has been ringing steady from some farmer friends wanting to know when the "salt water Hutterite" LoL was gonna start burning his wheels west to help curb the scurge... I'm thinking a week or two once i get work and projects completed; we'll load up the FX4 and giddy up! Oh yeah... i'm bringing some newbies to pop their gopher cherries... LoL

Good times! A few farmer friends of mine have been stock piling ammo for me and some friends to head out and cull the scurge for them. Who would of thought a public service could be so fun and rewarding?!

When I was young I used to shoot them in our small town golf course with a bow. Killed hundreds and never bothered anybody, but it was in a small town.
