Data for 500gr 45-70?

I had a hard time finding data specific to Guide Gun loads and 500gr bullets because so few molds make bullets suitable for the short OAL required for feeding.
The Lyman cast bullet handbook shows 28.5-31.5gr of IMR4198 and a 500gr cast bullet for a level 1 load (1873 trapdoor Springfield) as a starting point. That's with a bullet seated shallower than a 500gr will be to function in a lever rifle. Since you are seating deeper (higher pressure) as well as having a higher max pressure, I'd start at that start load and work up. If you want to be cautious, drop it a couple grains from starting.
I use the Lee .459" 500gr spire point bullet in my Guide Gun but have to single-feed them into the chamber. They also wont eject if unfired without removing the bolt. I've shot them with 40gr of H4895 without issue but they also don't seat as far as a properly-functioning 500gr bullet would in a lever. My records show 1447fps as well if that helps at all.
It's something I tested to see if it worked and don't do it too often; I save the 500gr'ers for my single shot (and usually Goex FFg as well).

Thanks guys, that's very helpful and validates my data. My reason for asking is that I used 30 gr of IMR4198 with the 500 grainer. I found some data online suggesting a load of 40 gr of IMR4198 - that seemed mighty high and made me wonder if i was out-to-lunch about my load. Apparently I am not too far outside reality.

nice to here about 45/70 ,I just bought a new model 1895 G,I tried some paper patch cast bullets 300 gr,group very nice used IMR4227 ,vel 1481,but found barrel was dirty,so will try another powder thank guys,

Not sure of what cast bullet you're using, but the only info I have available that 'may' help you out is a scan from my RCBS Cast Bullet Manual.
Pg 2 may be the one of interest to you.
I couldn't find any published data,the 500's seem to be a single shot only deal...or at least they are intended to be used as
such. I just dug around forums and buddy seemed to have a good idea what he was doing. He had shot at least a dozen of them...just curious to hear another opinion.
Be aware that the 45-70 x 500 gr bullet x IMR4198 data here shows at least 7gr higher than max in my reloading manuals. Don't know if it's a typo or what

What 500gr cast bullet? Different bullets, different recipe's. .457 or .458 or larger? Pure lead or slightly hardened? Have you checked the powder manufacture website.
