What is really amazing to that this thread has gathered 241 responses over a 5 week period on a rifle that isn't worthy worth starting a thread on in the first place. That's not snobby, just plain fact.
We have differing opinions on what worth is. In my estimation, it's a $250 gun, it's a used axis after all. Like fancy rims on a beater, the animal underneath is still lacking.
And like I said earlier, my wife owns one, it does he job for her. But let's not start comparing it to my gustafs that only cost me a little more on the used market.
Hawk-I .... IMOP, you and Yorgi both hit the nail on the head.... It is what it is and you accept that......
As for me, I can't own one for what it is, so i choose accordingly, but can't tell you for sure my decisions would have been the same 20 years ago when my situation was different....
As for OP, you ask why savage axis gets knocked down.... It's because the majority in the forum cite gym as the second coming of Christ, instead of taking a practical view and stating what they really are....
Fair enough, we can agree to disagree on the merits of the Savage Axis.
Well if one looks back. You can see the Rem 700 come out circa 1962. By 1964, the sales had swung so far to Remington that Winchester threw out their entire line of pre-64, wheterh that was the M70, M94, M88, M100, M12....etc. Not really sure when the timeline came in, but into this mix came Savage with the Model 110. The Savage Axis is basically a budget rifle from already cost cutting and budget rifle company.
Where i get to my point in this post is here. Galamb has posted that he sold more Axis than anything, almost no M700. We have a economic set of circumstances, just like in 1964....well a lot different.....but a Liberal government creates doubt which stifles investment in better rifles, the canadian peso makes even the bottom end manufacturers lines become $900 rifles. Conditions are right for the Savage Axis just like the Rem M700 and Savage 110 in 1964, pushing build quality and cost cutting to a new low. The race for the bottom.
funny thing ... someone posts a question about the axis and what could happen is a decent conversation on how to mod the rifle or overcome a shortcoming or improve it .........
but instead it seems the same half dozen people come into the thread and take the equivalent to a huge steaming sh.t in the thread and start ranting and raving about every real and imagined flaw they can think of .......
if they put one percent of the effort they took to b.tch and moan , they would be able to solve things like world hunger .
