So I recently inherited a few rifles, one of which seems to be a Mauser 98 sniper. I've been told that the scope is real but the mount is reproduction. I think the sling is real too. Other than that I really don't know much about it. I was hoping someone here would be able to help me identify exactly what I have and maybe how much it is worth.

Sadly the gun is mostly matching but not completely. Bore seems to be really nice but no sure how the accuracy is because I have not shot the rifle.

The scope looks right but the mounts are 100% wrong.

Something is goofy with your pics. They are accessible, but they didn't show up immediately.

Depending on what the K98k was, it could have been worth over 2 grand. Add four holes, and the value plummets. But hey, it would be worth a loss of hundreds of dollars to have a bit of fun.

What if he did drill it I bet he has more fun with the old scope on there than without.

If it is an all matching original rifle that runs thousands why would you ruin it by drilling into it? Why not just get a mismatched/RC/Post war rifle instead?

Why don't you just ask the OP if it's a rare numbers matching rifle? What's done is done to the rifle, I think it looks good the way it is. I would buy it. Seriously cool rifle.

IT would be seriously cool if the OP put a set of period high claw mounts on there. and posted some pic of the rifle markings , so we can see what it is.
