Shorten PAL Approval Times

Me too! Status just changed to licence issued. 28 days total. I'd imagine it gets printed on Friday so by the time I see it in the mail it would be 6 weeks total.

My firt time PAL application was mailed february 12, received february 18 and just showed up on the website yesterday. (Day 19)

They have completed intial processing and is now in progress!

Ok Everything is good. Mine says. Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date. They told me to have my reference phone in. I wasn't using Kristopher, just Kris on the site.

Great news! Get your reference to call. Follow up and see if they need to speak to anyone else, wait for the 28 days and check your status again. Once the licence is issued you can call the CFO and ask if they will give you your licence number. Many gun clubs wont allow you to apply unless you have one and lots of them have long waiting lists. The sooner you get in the cue the better.

Hi there, New to the site. Came across it when googling PAL Approval times. I would like to say a big thanks for this thread as I myself have also recently sent in my PAL Non Restricted forms. I spoke with a lady after not seeing anything going on for a while with my application, she told me it could take up to five weeks for them to receive it and that she had no record of my information. The next day after talking with them it showed it was in progress. I waited a few more days ( which was today ) and asked another lady if she had any information regarding my PAL. She told me they just needed to scan the photo then it will be sent off to the CFO. I asked her the date it showed she received it. She told me March 2nd, today being the 8th and with the 28 holding time for new application I'm hoping that means its going to be roughly 22 days left. She told me also there was no information missing. But she said nothing about contacting references, nor did she ask me anything besides the usual name, birth date, address etc. So I'm hoping that's all I need. Or do you think I should still have my references phone them anyway and then call back in a week or so?? Thanks in advance to all.

You need the application number. I phoned today & asked for it after I saw it online. She gave it to me & my reference phoned in. Today was day 21 since they received it.

Resent mine in with Refrence signatures today. Day 27 so we will see how back logged this causes. The only upside is they were stickerd with my refrence number so once approved I should be able to call in and get my number assuming I don't get stonewalled.

My 2 references signatures and phone numbers were both on my 2 papers i sent in, my photo, and any and everything else they asked for. I passed the test long ago so had that ready to go off the start with all questions answered. I even phoned the 1-800 # to go over the paper work with me to make sure all corresponding fields were filled in and filled in correctly. It took them 5 minutes to go over the paper work with me and assured me it was correct. so that left the photo and money order left to toss in the envelope. Went and got that and sent it off. Didn't do express like i should have but it still worked. Tomorrow i'm going to have my 2 references phone in, then i can't see any other problems on my end hopefully. As I said , today they told me they received it on the 2nd of march and all they needed to do was scan a copy of my photo ID. They said all other info was correct and after the scanning of the photo it would be sent off to the CFO for the final decision. Fingers crossed here. 5 years is way to long out of the game for me.

The application number that your references need is the one you see online, or they can tell you what it is when you phone in. If they said they're just scanning your photo and then sending it to the CFO then there's no point having your ref's call in as you're already good to go (at least that's my understanding).

Does the application # show online. Or did you see the message that it was in progress then have to phone in and ask for it. Thank You.

I phoned in because the credit card was charged & nothing showed up online. Found out I wasn't putting my full name in. I asked for the application # then checked on-line again & it was there. Reference phoned in, now I'm waiting for approved.

28 days from receipt on their end to licence issued!! :)

Application was for an RPAL. I filled it in very carefully and legibly, made sure everything was to their instructions with the photo etc, and sent it in by Xpresspost (no signature). It lists their receipt date as the day that tracking shows it was delivered, so requiring a signature wouldn't have made a difference in my case. My safety course scores were 96% or above for all 4 sections, not sure if that makes any difference. I don't have any record with the police. Once it showed up online as "in progress", I called in and asked what I could do to help. They didn't interview me and told me to have just one of my references call in.

I'll post a full update of the process later but I sent my restricted upgrade application in on Feb 1, my license was issued today, March 10. Pretty quick!

It has been 28 days since my application arrived. I just called Mirimachi, I was told that they are done with the application, my photo has been scanned and it is now in the hands of the CFO for background check etc. My references did not need to be called as this was a non restricted and I am over 30. She said nothing I can do but wait, if there status has not changed 2 weeks call back.
