8.5 grizzly barrel ported with chokes????

Not sure it would leave a useful shotgun. Porting has to be behind the chokes leaving just a couple inches of barrel before porting dumps the pressure out. I think MV would be dismal. Chokes would be a good idea though.

Chokes are awesome I agree, have them on a few of my guns. What if you ported it with four small holes on top of the barrel, or even two? I think it would make for an interesting fireball!

Well less porting means less effect. Plus they would be directly above your hand and inches from your face. Chrony numbers out of an 8.5 are not that bad at all but I wouldn't want to sacrifice any more. They're no louder than any other defender length shotgun and recoil is the same as anything else. My 8.5 actually had less felt recoil than a 20" Maverick 88. Some of that is due to the better fit with the magpul SGA and its recoil pad. Muzzle flash with lighter slug and buck loads is pretty tame. Rem reduced recoil 1 oz slugs chrony at 950 fps for the 8.5 and 1150 fps out of an 18.5" express tactical. Still very lethal at close range with a higher impact velocity than most slugs have at 75 yds. And a slug at 75 yds is rather effective. Sorry for rambling, I'm sure somebody will find this info as interesting as I do.

I might just try this in a few months. I think I'll start with the choke first and see what kind of results I get and then maybe port it with two small holes first, I don't think I'd want to get carried away in that feature.

i am going to disagree on the loudness of an 8.5 inch barrel compared to a longer barrel . i find them to be extremely loud . thanks for the slug speeds.
