Lets put it this way. You are pitching a new product, say Wonderpoo, the shampoo that will lift tired dehydrated hair that suffers more than thrice yearly bleachings. Now, are you going to present a bottle of Wonderpoo that you let your wife use for the last 6 months? Of course not. Yet regrettably, that is what this thread does.

Turns out Wonderpoo was just a cheap knockoff of Mane 'n Tail.

I am so ready for these. I know it makes me sound like a "call of duty" kid but being able to own something that looks like an AK-47/74 is super exciting! And since they arent ridiculously over priced I am even more on board.

Looks cool, ill buy a few for sure. Maybe you have to put "THIS MODEL WAS AT THE RCMP LAB FOR FOUR YEARS, IT IS A PROTOTYPE MODEL" In big bold letters at the top of the thread.

People still wouldn't see it. Haters gonna hate.

New non restricted rifle shooting a desirable rounds (perhaps opening the market to 5.45x39) and people hate the 1000 price. Which the vz58 exceeds now.

Still excited to see these land. Thanks PCV for the update.

No, as in the same case with AKs, the reciever attachment points are different. The wood stock would screw into a lug in the receiver whereas there's a hinge for the folding stock, not a lug.

Thanks for the info ..... I was hoping it was like the cz 858 in that respect.

Quality looks allot differnt from what I expected but like said its a prototype. Its gunna be hard to jump on a pre order till I see more pics and videos.

There going to be any warreny on these?

Cant wait to see their price on EE :p

Will wait to actually see the "finish product" which I believe wont be too far from the abused model there, then will make a decision

Huge difference from military Type81, which makes me think commercial division of Norinco is totally separated from military production. Which makes me think it's not like 858 - basically surplus, but rather commercial product and not of good quality. The fact there's a "prototype" implies new production from the scratch, probably using original drawings with changes in receiver. I've been expecting another military grade firearm, but what I see is poorly made commercial clone. I have no issues with paying even north of $1k for quality product, but for that - no way.... huge disappointment.
P.S. Thanks PCVando for detailed report.

I'd be in for 3, two LMGs and one of these guys. Although I think I'd hold off to see what CanAm brings in. Great to finally get an idea what we will be getting. Very happy to see it's not the SKS style safety!

Pcvando,
Thanks for the info and pics. Looks good. I'm happy to see another x39 semi come to market. I am interested and would own one.

If we can get cheap 5.45 7n6 ammo, then that caliber will do well too.

For the negative fellows...it's only a prototype as stated. Coming in at $900-1000 or so, not too bad. It is a well proven design with no New stock of Vz58 are at $1300 at most vendors now. The era of a new vz58 for $1000 is gone so not fair to compare the Type81 price to that. We are in 2016 and everything across the board is more expensive due to our dollar.

So on to happy thoughts..... something good has come to market. The platform is refined and relatively problem free, being no better or worse for reliability vs other mainstream small arms.

Compared to the Type 56/AK-47 rifles, the Type 81 has some prominent features. It uses a longer barrel and a more rigid receiver made of thicker sheet steel. It also features a lighter bolt group combined with a gas regulator, which allows for more smooth operation under normal conditions, resulting in increased accuracy. It also has a bolt hold-open

Please folks. The first Vz58 were $600. SURE people spiked the price but it doesn't mean the current price is even remotely justified. If this thread goes anywhere, it should lead them to produce a decent blued version and more mags. I believe the civvie 56s had 3 mags...with many more available on the spot.

I appreciate the comments. I posted this threat to give and honest and forward informative read about the Type 81.

Some will love it, others will hate it. That's the nature of the game.

What I will say, is that I'm excited to have another non-restricted rifle platform option.

Other importers will follow, and eventually we will have a M14 style variation in the marketplace. All Chinese guns, but produced in different factories, so we will see some blued, some parkerized etc, and you choose the one you like best.

It will be interesting to see the final landed product. Personally I was expecting a blued rifle, but as you can see in the pics, some components are blued, some parkerized.
TI was not 100% certain that this was the final product finish, as I believe the guns are not even made yet. For all we know, they could be blued. I was told they will look more like the original military one.

I guess only time will tell.

The grenade launcher will be included on the rifles. The Chinese originally thought we couldn't own grenade launchers, so they omitted it. TI informed them they are legal, so will be including them on the final product.
