That's a joke right? The thing looks well used. No way I would put 899/ 999 into that.

That's because it was well used. This one is their sample, it was in RCMP lab hands for 4 years. Who knows what they did to it. It saw a lot of use.

Also, its just a prototype. Not final finish or anything.

Those two combined make for a worn looking gun.

When you buy one, you get a nice new one, in box.

Man that looks like the furniture on a beat up sks with horrible internal machining. To think, it could be yours for a mere grand plus tax. CZ on EE or BNIB for 1400ish including tax from dealers.

Seems like people are not reading what I posted in first post.

It is a prototype. TI has stated that the actual product will have nice lighter wood, with a proper finish, and visible wood grain.

The gun in its current form is a prototype/FRT sample version, and the wood is not the one that the rifle will wear.

For chrissakes, the pegs supporting the rifle are machined the same way..... Guess the RCMP had their way with the pegboard as well.

Lol guess people miss the point when it says prototype.... im sure once theyre pumping out 1000 theyll step it up a bit this ones a one off

Lets put it this way. You are pitching a new product, say Wonderpoo, the shampoo that will lift tired dehydrated hair that suffers more than thrice yearly bleachings. Now, are you going to present a bottle of Wonderpoo that you let your wife use for the last 6 months? Of course not. Yet regrettably, that is what this thread does.

We are, the problem here is that in the last few years, we haven't seen the level of quality that was indicative of Norinco products in the 80's and 90's, and frankly, I'm sure the production models won't be too different than the current prototype (Sure, not painting the wood would make it to the finished product).

Photos around the web of newer Type 81's have them all sporting the "BBQ" paint, since it's more durable, cheaper and less labor intensive. Heck, even the newer blue finishes on Norinco pistols are nowhere near the level of quality on their military Type 56's.

I'm pretty sure Norinco's military division is pumping out quality products, but their civilian and sporting side is just about flipping cheap but functional wares.

Looks cool, ill buy a few for sure. Maybe you have to put "THIS MODEL WAS AT THE RCMP LAB FOR FOUR YEARS, IT IS A PROTOTYPE MODEL" In big bold letters at the top of the thread.

Good, more Type 81s for the rest of us.
