I'm starting a British Columbia Hunting Mentor Program

i keep coming back to this thread, and then looking up recipe ideas, then back to this thread, then day dreaming, then thinking bout rabbits some more, wish my area had more small game then grouse, they arent exactly the most cunning of creature to hunt.lol, if i get the chance , id love to head east and see if i can learn some of the ropes of rabbit hunting, all ive done is deer, grouse and bear .

it's okay..... i'd hunt bunnies but it's the one critter my wife specifically asked me not to bring home for the table.
i'll be home late tomorrow for new years weekend and will be out ice fishin up behind my place. lots of winter game sign about so will have the rifle along in case i see sumthin legal ;) maybe a coyote or a wolf if i'm lucky

What a great offer 45ACPKING, I for one could use some mentoring, lol, I have done a lot of waterfowling in the valley, but have always wanted to try upland hunting and Turkey hunting, but have no connections in that area. I just started deer hunting this year and fortunately have a couple of very experienced friends to show me the ropes in that area. Hopefully, someone would be willing to mentor a few guys on Upland hunting, would love to try my hand at some chuckars etc

Sure hope this works out. Back to work today from the holidays and my vacation time is back to full again so I'm hoping there's a chance I could be mentored by someone. ;)

sorry for my absence from this thread. Finished up a big job in February and have been enjoying my down time.
I had hoped more experienced hunters would have contacted me , willing to get on board but this hasn't been the case. There has been a couple and I appreciate you taking the time.
On the other hand, the response from guys wanting to be mentored has been overwhelming. I honestly haven't had time to reply to everyone individually.
So, what I'm gonna do is pop my head up from time to time when I have some useful input or some hunts planned and hopefully get to take some of the guys that have posted here, out for a hunt or two.
bear season is coming here in BC but the hunting doesn't really start till near end of may. IF I can put some time aside for bear hunting this spring, I'll post up and we'll see what happens as far as taking a hunter out for some mentoring.

Now, here is something I "know" I'm gonna do this fall during deer season. I am going to put a 4 or 5 day hunt in any buck mule deer season together for a location in BC region 3 this fall. So.... if this floats yer boat, the time to start contacting me will be middle of august (NOT BEFORE please :) )
we are also looking for a couple new recruits as full time additions to our hunting crew so this could be an opening for someone keen and easy to get along with ;)

cheers folks , best of luck hunting 2016!

I'm taking my CORE next month, and will also be doing a butchering course to learn both butcher and field techniques in dressing a carcass. I have a .308 and am a confident shot to ~200m, plus I work for an outdoor company so having gear is no problem. Mostly interested in deer hunting but open to others.

If anyone wants to take a quiet guy who's willing to carry gear and shut up and listen when he's being taught something, let me know, I'd love to learn from the experience in this forum.

Danger.

K , me and Carverk are gonna try and put a late may, early june black bear hunt together, location to be decided, but assume North of Williams lake somewhere to be determined.
we could probably handle a couple new recruits to join us.

also, a couple more would be mentors have contacted me , thanx guys, you know who you are ;)
Give me some time here, I'm gonna start trying to match make some new hunters with the guys who have volunteered so far.

For the newbies Bear hunting is best dun on foot so be ready to work for your bear it's going to be fun no boose till after the hunt and bring a fishing rod
I shod already have my bear by then so I'm just going to help you guys out and have sum fun

There's a young guy who wanted to take up hunting, so I took him out a few times unsuccessfully then he got a mulie doe LEH tag and went out himself and got one.

He wanted to learn how to butcher so walked into a butcher shop and said "I want to learn how to do this" and they hired him.

He was going out with a sweet girl but she was a real bear-hugger and wouldn't let him hunt bears. They broke up and now he want to hunt bears this season!

awesome MD !
it's funny, when I met my wife 11 years ago, I told her straight up when we first started dating, I have a compulsive disorder when it comes to hunting/fishing and the thought of eating store bought meat repulses me. So, as long as you never stand between me and my hunting and fishing...... we r gonna get along just fine.
choose yer mates wisely fellas ;)

well, this thread kinda died out and due to lack of responses on the experienced hunter end, I kinda gave up. That and I have been so fricken busy this past year my head is still spinning even tho I started my 4 months holidays 3 weeks ago.

Hooked up with mustangfrank for a couple visits while he was up in my area for his moose draw. They ended up bagging their bull after a few days of scouring the countryside hehehe.
This year my hunting partner is sitting out the season , his wife is battling cancer and he needs to be with the family over the coming months. So it's me, solo, for deer, bear, moose and elk hahaha broken old me is gonna get er done though.

I'm still going to help out a couple new hunters this year and have two hunts "booked" already but don't mind fitting another guy or gal in for deer and possibly moose.
So, here's how I'm gonna do this. Because I'm solo, I just can't work with a totally green hunter this year.
I'm looking for a very laid back person, who has been hunting for 3 or 4 years now with little success. I don't want someone fishing for new hunting spots, tho it is that time in my life where I start passing some of my spots on to someone perhaps younger and able to do those hikes hahaha.

so, if you are interested and have "some" experience , but not necessarily success, shoot me a message. I don't do cgn daily anymore so may be slow to respond.
The target time frame will be end of October as early as the 20th (moose) and November for mulies and possibly whitetail. Ground blinds and treestands will be the name of the game. Having a quad and a way to tow it would be a major bonus too.

I'll leave it at that.
any of the would be mentors who contacted me in the past, please feel free to post up here and connect with some of the many willing new hunters who are chomping at the bit to learn.

cheers and happy hunting everyone ;)
