My 22 shoots 1/2" groups at 50 yards/meters all day! Really? Prove it!

I gave it a half assed attempt today out of curiosity since I know my Mossberg is accurate but I've never really shot it for groups. Didn't quite make it... But I haven't shot in a while and I'm using a 60 year old 4x scope so I'm not terribly surprised to be honest. Just seeing the dots wasn't easy with this scope. I think a good scope, better ammo, and a real rest with some practice would make it totally possible. I have no doubts the rifle will do it... have to try again someday.

Measured out 50yds. Ammo was RWS Target Rifle, Sport Line. Mossberg 146-b

I know you're all jealous of my rest...

Center group was the first shot. Cold bore shot went wild low right, followed by a tight 5 shot group in the middle with 2 rounds in the same hole. Upper left group was my bad. I pulled it and I know it.

Smallest group was .465

Average group was .732

Not bad for an old rifle with a 4x scope. Needs work though.

Oh.. I wish I hadn't seen this thread. As luck would have it, the weather's improving daily. I have a CZ 455 American, an old Anschutz 190, and the better part of a case of SK Standard Plus that's going to take a beating if I start into this.

Thanks for waiting, UndertheGun!

Shot today March 9 2C light wind

I keep mine at the bottom of the bench, near the heater. It is unreal how much temperature affects velocity in .22 rounds. CCI SV from the same box hit over 4" lower when it was cold (-5C), others a little less but still really noticeable.

"bottom of the bench, near the heater" , lol, does that mean front pocket of your pants?

According to the wife that would be the "cooler" lol. Actually we have one of those Mr. Heater double radiants that sits in front of the benches when it is cold. It keeps us really nice and toasty but can sometimes cause weird mirages in the scope. I have it mounted on a piece of steel at floor level rather than on the propane tank as it was designed and that keeps the foot rest on my workmate nice and warm and the perfect place to keep my ammo warm. http://www.mrheater.com/double-tank-top-heater-with-spark-ignition.html

The camera angle makes it look like you have no back stop and are shooting slightly uphill. Do our eyes deceive us?

Yes there is another ridge right behind it and no access. I usually shoot into it but a tree had fallen and I couldn't get totally in as it dead ends about 200 my up from where I was.Yes not the best senerio but it's safer than it looks. I new someone would be on me.

I was just trying a few different ammo with my CZ today but to my surprise, Federal GAME-SHOK printed quite nicely, so I tried the challenge.
Rifle : CZ 455 FS
Scope: Leapers 4-16x40 (set at 10x power)
Ammo: Federal Game-Shok
Rest: Caldwell Lead Sled DFT
Weather: rainy but no wind

Groups:
0.595 - 0.220 = 0.375
0.688 - 0.220 = 0.468
0.655 - 0.220 = 0.435
0.711 - 0.220 = 0.491
0.703 - 0.220 = 0.483
Average: 0.450

Note: the paper got wet but the bullet holes survived. :)

CORRECTION: the ammo was FEDERAL GAME-SHOK (sorry, I mixed up the boxes and wrote Federal Champion on the paper)

Finally we had a nice day in Southern MB with not much wind today so it was time to give the 50 yard challenge a try. I took 2 CZs with me; 452 Full Stock and 452 Silhouette in Boyd’s Rimfire Hunter Stock. Here are some tech data and results:

Temp: -2C
Wind: Variable, up to 10km/h
Distance: 50 yd
Ammo (both rifles): SK Rifle Match (was kept warm in a cooler bag with a heated glycol pack)
Rest: Caldwell bags with “anti slip mat” + the hood of my SUV
Used wind flags

Rifle: CZ452 Full Stock 22LR
Scope: Leupold VX-1 Rimfire 2-7x28
Groups shot: 0.398; 0.394; 0.373; 0.492; 0.302
Average: 0.392
The FS exceeded my expectations today. The size of the dot on the target was ideal for the fine duplex reticle and 7x.

Rifle: CZ452 Silhouette 22LR with Boyd’s Rimfire Hunter stock, bedded up to and including the barrel lug.
Scope: Leupold VX-2, 6-18 AO
Groups shot: 0.359; 0.434; 0.267; 0.259; 0.397
Average: 0.343

CZ452 Full Stock pictures:

CZ452 Silhouette pictures:

That's unbelievable shooting with a 2-7 scope!
