My 22 shoots 1/2" groups at 50 yards/meters all day! Really? Prove it!

Finally we had a nice day in Southern MB with not much wind today so it was time to give the 50 yard challenge a try. I took 2 CZs with me; 452 Full Stock and 452 Silhouette in Boyd’s Rimfire Hunter Stock. Here are some tech data and results:

Temp: -2C
Wind: Variable, up to 10km/h
Distance: 50 yd
Ammo (both rifles): SK Rifle Match (was kept warm in a cooler bag with a heated glycol pack)
Rest: Caldwell bags with “anti slip mat” + the hood of my SUV
Used wind flags

Rifle: CZ452 Full Stock 22LR
Scope: Leupold VX-1 Rimfire 2-7x28
Groups shot: 0.398; 0.394; 0.373; 0.492; 0.302
Average: 0.392
The FS exceeded my expectations today. The size of the dot on the target was ideal for the fine duplex reticle and 7x.

Rifle: CZ452 Silhouette 22LR with Boyd’s Rimfire Hunter stock, bedded up to and including the barrel lug.
Scope: Leupold VX-2, 6-18 AO
Groups shot: 0.359; 0.434; 0.267; 0.259; 0.397
Average: 0.343

Cheers,

Nice shooting Kody. A double. I added both attempts to the successful list.

Thanks for the feedback guys.
The VX-1 and VX2 Rimfire line of scopes has amazing clarity and the thin reticle makes it possible to shoot decent targets even with a 7 magnification. I had to experiment with the target dot size a little (settled on 0.400 in dia) before I could see just enough of it behind the reticle. The horizontal and vertical lines helped to control the scope cant.

You're right about the Leupold rimfire scopes, I have the VX2 3-9 x 33 on my 455 American. I had a hard time getting my head around the price, but I sure don't regret buying it now.
Have you tried an open dot type target? Just a black ring with a white center. For some reason I seem to shoot those better. I designed this one specifically for the 50 yd challenge, if it ever stops snowing and raining here I'll give it a try. With the rifle zeroed at 20 yds, the bullet should drop enough at 50 yds to save the aiming point. The circle OD is 1/2" on this one, that seems to work for me at 50 yds.

Interesting, I can see how this would work well with a low magnification scope. I have a CZ Scout with a vxi 2-7x28 rimfire and a 452 American with a VX-2 3-9X33 rimfire that will be put through the 50 yd challenge next. I might give your target a try and see if I can see it clearly at 7x.
I find it quite fun shooting this challenge with low mag scopes rather than with my 18x. More challenging for sure. It makes you realize that clarity/quality of the scope and reticle thickness is as important if not more than the magnification when it comes down to target shooting.

Thanks JR. I've done some tinkering with the trigger springs to lighten the pull and recently did a bedding job. I'm not sure if the bedding really did much for it as I didn't test much ammo in it before and it shot quite well with a couple brands. It certainly is picky but happened to like the SK today I was also one group shy of success with standard plus as well.

Nice shooting RabidM4U5. I added you to the successful list. One of the few Savages on the list.

Another beautifull day here in Kelowna and with the afternoon off I had to get out and go for an attempt with my CZ455 varmint.
Its a piller beded 455 in a Boyds peppered lam stock with a DIP adj sear, magwell and trigger guard, trigger is around 10oz.Topped of with a sightron S11 bigsky 6-24x42
I was having some trouble with consistant grouping and so messed around with the action screw torque.I tried cranking it down as its pillered but that produced a shotgun pattern.I then tried real loose and it got better, went to 17inch lb better yet then went up one more to 18 and left it there, here are the results from today.
Ammo SK std plus
Groups .496 /.210 /.302 /.415 /.392
Average group size .363

Here is a few of my other failed attempts today it wasn't untill the 6th attempt today that I made the challenge.
I did shoot a personal best for the CZ today with a .166
I started the day with an older SK std plus that always has a few flyers. On attempt 5 and 6 I switched to a new batch of SK std plus and it was awsome.
I quickly phoned prophet river and ordered 2 more bricks of the same lot #
