My 22 shoots 1/2" groups at 50 yards/meters all day! Really? Prove it!

I got an "almost made it" with this one this morning, using a new rifle with shot numbers 101 to 125 -- shot left to right. Shot number 122 was the bugaboo. I think I'll get it next time, though. Of course, close counts only in horseshoes and grenades.

They have 500 meter .22 rimfire targets???? I would have thought they'd be bigger. Who knew:) And that's "close only counts with hand shoes and horse grenades"

First time shooting diopter sight, tried 5 shot groups with several different ammos at 50 meters, all groups were under 1" and was surprised to find the following group to be very decent, at least to me. The hole which looks like a flyer was actually a sighter.
Yes, I sighted it in with the diopter sight directly at 50 meters and it hit the target at first shot surprisingly enough, but I did not find it with a bino, so after sighted it in on another target, I put another 5 rounds into this target.
Am thinking of challange the 5X5 groups with diopter sight, will glue the 5 target paper to a big size paper. Does it make any sense?

Why are you measuring from the edges of the open hole rather than the extremities of the tear mark the bullet makes?

Working at it too. A little time off to shoot gophers :) I find it incredible the # of people that post they have no trouble getting 1/2 at 50 with bulk, mini-mags and Winchester Super X. I need to work on my form so I too can shoot this well. I too say "Darn Flyers".

Last week I went to the shooting range with my CZ 452 varmint ( first time this year ).
The results were horrible.

I changed the trigger spring this winter so I had to remove the action from the stock.

Last year the same rifle with the same ammunition shoot around half inch at 50.

I was a little discouraged last week but I suspected this was a problem with the torque setting of the action and barrel screws.

Today I went to the range and tried to *tune* the screws with my torque screwdriver.
Best torque setting I found is 25 in/lb for the action screw and 20 in/lb for the barrel screw.
Results were good, fired 25 rounds after the tune and through the scope it looked like a completed challenge.

BUT...

I failed again to complete the challenge by 1 fudging flyer... AGAIN !
I had to quit the range because I ran out of time and I had important things to do.
Haven't even measured the groups with my vernier caliper because you can see it with the measuring tape that the group #2 is bigger than half inch.
The rifle was flawless, the ammo was good, it was a perfect day, no wind, etc... I messed up !
I think I'm damned !

Failed this 1/2 challenge numerous time by one or two flyers since last year. Fail again and again is not easy to be honest :bangHead:

A whole lot of "fail" and not a lot of success being posted lately....

I shot one today but the rifle has already done it previously, only difference was a different optic.Waiting on my new MPR to try another.
Its never easy I had near perfect conditons today and failed miserably with my 455.It took 3 tries and my special batch of center X to get a good one today with the Match 64.

*Yawn* If the equipment is capable and conditions are calm it's not that difficult. That annie sounds about due for a good cleaning.

Shot another qualifier with my Remington 40XB while testing Lapua Center X.
.252, .345, .412, .359 and .430 for an average of .3596".
The last one looked like it was the spoiler and I said something like "shucks" and carried on using the target.
While that would be a disqualifier, a little creative editing would hide the warts.
