My 22 shoots 1/2" groups at 50 yards/meters all day! Really? Prove it!

Sure, mine has the letters "PC" stamped on the barrel so, P=June and C=1956.

I just realized that there is a custom bbl. on it. but the serial no. on the action is 76**. Looks like I'll need to call Remington.
Just read on Rimfire Central thread that the 722 actions were made from 1957-1962. Guess I've got a "pre-62" !

Or anybody with a remington 597? On RFC they have a 1/4" @ 25 and 1/2" at 50 thread for the remmy so it is doable. Mine is lucky to shoot under an inch at 50. It is over 15 years old and has had thousands of rounds through it without a good chamber cleaning. Still trying to source out a bore scope, I bet there's some cleanin to do on the remmy possibly get some accuracy back.
Was out today to give this challenge a try. My first group was awesome but then the sun broke through the overcast and the wind got quite inconsistent with hot / humid air. I thought I botched my attempt on my first shot of the second group but my calipers say otherwise.

tHAT UPPER RIGHT GROUP HAS TO BE BIGGER THAN A .614 LESS THE .22 i COUNT 4 .22 in a row plus extra space! not trying to be a #### but the challenge is hard at best
I will double check. They look big to me too.
I'm raising my eyebrows on the measurements too. I just drew two .22" diameter circles in Mastercam that are .394" CTC and there is only .174" of space between the inside edges. The group shown with .394" CTC has two full bullet holes and some space.
As an observation, the group that measures 0.364 (or 0.361) appears to be less than half the size of the one that measures 0.614 inches.
I saved the pic, then adjusted the size on my screen till the bullet holes measured .215", this gave me sticker diameters of .875". I then measured all the groups and came up with .238, .715, .727, .715, .51".
I say this every time I see groups measured with a digital caliper. Measure a lone bullet hole. ZERO the caliper. Measure the outside of the group. It automatically gives you centre to centre.

It is for this reason I contend we should be taking a picture of the largest group.
I'm an idiot. The first group was too small to measure inside edge to outside edge of the two widest holes so I measured the diameter and subtracted .22, then went ahead and and did the same for the rest. I was in a rush and should have measured twice. Post deleted.
Just for the fun of it, here's an "almost made it" target I shot a while ago. Anyone care to measure remotely? I'm curious to see if we get the same measurements, or if it's even close to the same.
In fact, after posting this I rechecked my initial measurements. I think I see why Eley is using the bullet shape they do on their high end ammo, it cuts a nice clean hole that's easier to score! My actual ctc group measurements averaged 0.020-0.030" larger than if I measured the bullet holes edge to edge and subtracted .220".
Other than measuring groups, I use an old Eagle Eye type scoring tool that came out shortly after plug scoring gauges became frowned upon. Mine has two concentric etched circles for scoring .22 cal, and a single circle for .177. It's often surprising how some shots you'd swear were "out" actually cut the line when checked, although there's no help for some of them.
Plain paper makes a lousy target, tears easily instead of punching. I started backing a lot of my .22 targets with glued on cardboard, which helps, particularly after the target backers get shot up.

I got an "almost made it" with this one this morning, using a new rifle with shot numbers 101 to 125 -- shot left to right. Shot number 122 was the bugaboo. I think I'll get it next time, though. Of course, close counts only in horseshoes and grenades.
I didn't have much luck today either as I was out sighting in my new sightron brd 36 on my match 64.Best I could do was a .453/.443/.540/.510/.322.Even with good equipment it can be a bugger. I have to get used to the tiny dot and fine x hair on the fixed 36. Tried Midas + but worse than center x.I picked up an old mossberg 146 ba on the ee, can't wait to try the old girl and see if she's challenge worthy.
