Where to buy a Franchi AL 48 in Canada

They can be ordered in from the dealers mentioned above. But based on the current situation of the Canadian dollar, be prepared to drop your pants with regards to price if you go that route. I would suggest keeping your eyes open for a used one. They pop up from time to time and the prices are very attractive. There is no mechanical difference between the older 48's and the newer ones. Some of the older ones are actually much nicer then the newer ones anyway. Here is a 20g from my Franchi 48 collection....

Thanks for all the replies guys. I have inquired to a few places and am awaiting their responses. By the looks of this older Georgia's gun, I will keep my eyes peeled for one of these gems

Post your findings when you start hearing from the dealers you contacted. Not long ago, Prophet River had a nice Fenice on consignment. Kind of kicking myself not jumping on it when I had a chance.

Seriously? And I thought I had a handle on all these guns being listed. Clearly work is getting in the way of EE surfing

Yep it was there. I remember looking at it and the wood was nicer than mine but it was a 28ga deluxe model
I am going to say listed for $1100 but I maybe off on that
Had choke tubes for sure and not that many weeks ago
As you know good stuff on the EE doesn't last long
Cheers

Frick! That was a good price too...especially considering where the prices of new guns seem to be going. I wont be surprised if the price of this gun in Canada if purchased new would be above $1500. Just a few years ago I bought a new Franchi Instinct SL for $1360 including taxes and shipping. I was just browsing some CGN sponsor listings and the same gunis $2000+ in many outlets.

Agree. I know mine was more than that and it was just the standard model and must be 4 years ago now I bought it
I did run across two more used in 28ga but they seem to be the same guns floating around the country. Both have cut stocks and one for sure came out of Nova Scotia and is floating around Ontario some where. If you find a used one make sure the stock has not been altered also only one of these two was a choke tube model
28ga I keep eyes out for in all models. Just a real bad disease I have ;)
Cheers

I have a few diseases as well in the form of Cooey's, Beretta sxs's and of course Franchi's

Yep have the cooey 84 & 840 one also but that is not an expensive treatment. ;)

Haha. Very true. I found that Cooey's have a habit of multiplying too quickly and then I realized I had more cash tied up in Cobourg Ontario steel and wood then I should probably share. I've found many of them new homes, but I still have a fair amount of them and still scratch the Cooey itch on a regular

Here is my new to me Franchi 48 AL 28 Deluxe. The wood on the deluxe guns are incredible. Now that I have a 28g, at quick glance it doesnt appear that its built on its own frame but rather shares the same platform as the 20g. I didnt have time to compare the two guns side by side just yet, but they appear to be the same. When Im back home I'll do a thorough comparison and will report back

Likely none of you care...but for the odd person who gives a crap, I was finally able to have a close look at the 20g (1967 DOM) and 28g (2000 DOM) side by side and this is what I've determined.

1) all magazine components are the same including the tube itself, friction and governor rings, follower, spring and retainer and end cap. The factory mag plug was actually stamped as 20g. The mag tube on the 28g has a ring on the inside on the receiver end to reduce the diameter and prevent the follower from pushing through. The only difference between the two was the length of the recoil spring. The 20g was an inch longer but the 28g had tighter coils. Both springs felt as though they had the same strength.

2) trigger assemblies are interchangable. The 28g had a slightly updated design, but it made no difference on function

3) the receivers are milled to the exactly outside specifications, and from the measuring tools I have available to be, the inside appears to be the same as well

4) I did not do a total tear down, but from what it looks like, the breech block on the 28g is marginally smaller. However, the guide rails they ride on are the same. This is likely to accomodate the smaller shell diameter

5) with the obvious exception that the barrels are a different gauge, the barrels were interchangeble to both receivers. There was little to no difference on their design and/or manufacture

6) Stocks are interchangeable. The only difference was in the forearms as the 28g had a marginally narrower barrel channel. Also, the bore of the plastic guide on the inside of the 28g forearm was marginally tighter. Other than that, they are identical.

As mentioned in my previous post, the 28g and 20g share the same platform. Until I purchased my 28g, I was also under the impression that both guns had their own platform, which clearly is not the case
