Revolvers vs Autos

Yes, but the revolver shooter will likely have to cheat by cocking the hammer.:p

Marksmanship fundamentals are all well and good, but I think that moving beyond the realm of static slow fire allows for much more interesting metrics of handgun performance.

I'm reminded of a story from ' Six-guns ' with our pleasant back 'n forth teasing.
Seems a Negro cow puncher had come in with several rail cars of cattle. In a case of mistaken identity a cop pulled out a .30 Luger and started shooting the dusky cow puncher in the back. " Fitz ( storyteller ) said the big colored boy hooked one arm through the fence as he turned slowly around facing his adversary. When the Luger was empty the negro still hung onto the fence, then drew a 4 3/4 inch .45 SA Colt from his waist band and calmed asked, " Are you all through, white boy?" and shot the cop through the heart, killing him instantly. "
Different disciplines I suppose. I've auto pistols and enjoy them, just not really a speed shooter though.
I'd rather take the extra second ( when I do my part ) and get it right the 1st time, with a big Ole wheelgun. Not as fun as 3 gun and speed shooting ( to many ).
Even the rare instance when I do compete; I purposefully walk to the line, draw, ready my pistol, reholster and precede at a walk after the signal. I see no need to jog or ' Barrel roll ' ( teasing here ) with a loaded gun. I don't slip into Operator role playing well, lol.
And I use a Steyr-Hahn 9 x 19 if I want to play at such activities BTW ( but no lanyard...that's just silly :) ). And I am quite physically fit and limber, I just don't slip into the combat role playing well.
I'd rather take the extra time to #### a wheelgun and hit the target than be able to get off 8 rds in 2.5 seconds.
Just my thing; different personality I suppose.
As long as we are having fun & no-one gets hurt...it's all good right?
Stay safe

I only ever owned one revolver, a Pietta 1873 SAA Army clone in .357 Mag. with a 6" barrel.
Using bulk .38 Spl out of it I could shoot it more accurately than any other handgun I have ever shot. No exageration.
Of course the long barrel hence longer sight radius helped a bit but due to the nature of the design differences between a revolver and a semi auto, it's obvious why your generic out of the box revolvers are far more accurate.
The barrel is fixed to the frame. Not floating in a receiver with a barrel bushing etc influencing it every time you fire a cartridge.

Between my custom Les Baer 1911 and my S&W 627-5, it's a tie over the bag for precision...
The quality of the firearm is a huge factor in the end result... JP.

I think a lot of this really just comes down to how good single action is with a revolver.

I had a gp100 long ago, and that thing was fantastic! That being said, I have a dolled up Glock 17 Longslide... and that thing is a tack driver!

Definitely the nature of a revolver slows one down a bit... which is good if your going for groups.

Probably my favorite thing about revolvers... they aren't neutered by Big Brother.... they are as they should be... and there is something nice about that :)

Shooting my revolvers right now and having a lot of fun. Took me awhile with grip and all , don't shoot much 357 but found lots of cheap 38.
