Mine 26" I find the 28" too long on them with the LC barrels and nose heavy
Yours probally remington put a 26" on it. I would bet she is one of the last made ones a 2005 or late 2004
God knows and it would not matter to me as long as it is a factory barrel which I am sure it is.

Just checked my 2002-2005 Remington catalogs. For the Express (both synthetic and wood models) the only catalogued factory offered barrel length is 28" with Remchoke. The Wingmaster for those years lists both 26" and 28" bbl offerings. As for spare barrels, the only one I can find listed for the 16g in a catalog is a 20" smooth bore deer bbl.

Thank you sir. You are refreshing my memory. The spare barrels and choke tubes were not listed I remember now which is why I had to get the tubes ordered in as warranty replacement parts and the barrel from a US repair shop. Starting to come back to me :)

My apologies on the barrel. Daughter came home and the box I thought was the new 16ga barrel was actually a new 28g wingmaster choke tubed barrel so one will have to wait to see the 16ga it since it must be also greased and gun socked away no wonder at the cost of it.:( Box is there in the rafters and matches the part number I posted earlier however
Never mind asking how many remington barrels I have. Just clearly not even close to enough IMO :(

Nothing wrong with that 16ga bps you shared :) in fact cannot even remember seeing one to buy if i wanted to.I only managed to snag the plain upland english stock example in 16ga Bps :(

Getting a 16g modern 870 is at least doable here. I still haven't seen an Upper Sandusky M37 16 in cannuckistan :(

Correct me if I am wrong but are they not no longer mfg dropped in late 2010??? and total production was limited to 500 guns prior

They still list a featherlite 16 on their website:

But the most recent incarnation of Ithaca is known for not always having what they supposedly still sell, unless of course, you're looking for something in 12 gauge - then they have everything all the time.

They did make a limited run of "ultra featherlight 16's" a way back (with aluminum receiver?). I've never seen one though. Apparently they were a King Ferry special order or something?

They are/were ungodly expensive and no idea if the distributor (trigger wholesale) brought any 16g versions in for me to actually find :(

My gun was cut checked. Had Wing Master on starboard and 870 on the port side. I bought it brand new (ordered in) from a gun shop in Thunder Bay 2005. It cost just short of 600.00 taxes etc. My Express came from Epps on a clear out in 2010 it cost just 225.00. Should have bought all of them (they had several). I got my 23" barrel by purchasing a complete synthetic youth gun from a fellow CGNer in Ottawa. I put the 23" on my gun and put a adult butt stock and my old 28" barrel on the youth gun and sold it off. At a loss of course but that is the sickness of Remington and the great 16 bore. The Remington warranty shop I sent my gun to advised me that I had one of the first run 16 gauge Wing masters and Remington had tried to get away with slightly modded 12 gauge parts. That explained the extractor and cartridge stop issues. The J loc safety just was a wreck from the get go. But the one on my Express is no issue.

The swap would involve removing wood or just changing the fore e nd to 12 gauge. Still it would be a nice option. I know the gun writers much maligned the re intro of the 16 gauge 870 and 1100 but they were good guns that had their own characteristics. The biggest complaint about them was the weight. Having hunted with several Ithaca 37 16 gauges with stout loads I can say they are not much fun for any volume shooting. I can remember using Federal hi power #6's in my old 16 bore 37 for squirrels in southern Ontario. A morning shoot of 20 to 25 rounds was to be remembered in more ways than one.

Wow. That was a real cheap price. I know for sure mine was not that cheap or I would have bought two vs a second barrel it would have been about the same dollars for me at the time
A 1st run 2002 gun still sitting some where 3 years later. That doesn't sound normal on this wingmaster which many were looking for in 2002 and could not be found
I bet she was a problem child from day one and unfortunately they decided to move it out again I would say from your experiences with her
I hope you kissed Wes at epps :) for that price on the express mine was 400 or close to it

It's amazing what prices have done since the dollar tumbled. Now even the most common synthetic 28" express 12 is in the $450 neighbourhood before taxes. I expect the price will continue to climb as the cheaper guns out there were likely put in inventory before the dollar collapsed :(

That said, I noticed the dollar sits about $.076 today - which is a marked improvement over a couple months ago.

As for a 37 in 16, the new ones have soft rubber pads, something like a Pachmayr Decelerator, on them now. None of my 37's have anything but a butt plate on them, but the 12 only sees target loads and the 20 gauge isn't as punishing as a 16 with game loads.

the Express 16, I'm expecting, will be a pussycat - even compared to my vintage 16g Wingmaster.
 
Funny thing was Epps listed the 16 gauge express guns as a clear out and all were 28" hard wood stocked. Mine showed up in the mail with the 28" tube but a synthetic stock. For the price I was not about to ship it back.

These days that would be a good thing. The OEM synth stocks seem to sell well on the EE here if you take them off. I suspect a lot of guys looks for them to replace the horrid furniture on the Chinese 870 clones.

I like the looks of yours, I may have to try and locate a decent set of Fleur de Lis wood. Sadly I don't have any lying around right now :(
 
Mine came out of the EE. I have noticed more than a few very nice sets like you describe for around 75.00 bucks. Funny, interests seem to be towards the synthetic Knox, ATI etc than the nice old walnut. Oh well that is to our advantage.

FWIW, I found a nice set on the EE the other day, it was listed, I responded within about 2 minutes, and the seller took the ad right down, probably nobody else saw the set. It was cherry. $120 shipped. Will post pics when that gets here too :)
