Alpharms SA15 shotgun review .. Sorta... Update post 32

I removed the chokes with the key without a problem. The "muzzle brake" choke seems to be made in a different manner, has different rough finish (like a mag) and like a mag does get stuck. That one may be hard to remove in the future. Improved modified choke (my favorite) is perfect, smooth, and moves as it should. I hardly use any other ones except cylinder for slugs.

Did you "red-loctite" it like sheep100 did?

Mag spring length: I am having discussions with the factory on magazine spring length and will report back ASAP.

Make sure the bent "tail" of the spring is in the notch in the floor plate insert and that at the top of the spring the high end is to the rear of the mag. We are experimenting with shortening the spring, will post results ASAP.

With the mag follower make sure the body is smooth (nicely rounded) at the rear under the spring loaded follower.

So if this works. Will all the second shipment will have this done to the mags?

Mags seem to be the main concern other than a small charging handle. Everything else sounds pretty positive. After all what can you buy for 555 that's new in a firearm that's not a 22 or milsurp.

What I found shooting mine was the jams were from the shell being pushed up too far and catching the top part where the barrel starts and the shells being made of plastic when it gets pushed forward the plastic smushes in and jams up the shell. Because of shells being paper or plastic they need to pretty much be fed centered into the chamber if they hit off center it jams. If they were metal like with a rifle I have no doubt they would feed in but being smushy thats were we have the problem.

The small charging handle is noticeable sure and I would jump at an aftermarket one but really it doesn't make that a big difference once your actually shooting

Some shells have softer hulls than others, the harder shells seem to feed better. These guns also appear to improve with use.

I feel like if the mag were able to sit in higher the shells wouldn't feed on such an angle. But I guess this wouldnt be possible cause the bolt wouldn't clear.

got my charging handle cover from bugout today and installed it without issue. for those complaining about the charging handle, contact bugout now and buy one of these off him. This makes working the charging handle about 1000 more comfortable then stock. doesn't fill like something is trying to rip my fingers off anymore. the cover makes it very comfortable to operate and the larger size makes it much easier to use. A must have if you've got a 15sa

That looks way better and I won't have to wear my "tactical" Mechanix gloves when I'm shooting mine now.

Alpharms 15AS Field Test (Part 2)

From what I’ve read on CGN each gun seems to behave differently and all need some TLC at one point or another. The magazine issues I had were with the two “stock” mags. Now that I have fix the performance issues as part of the work required to get the first part of my review I moved on the cycle/accuracy test with slugs.
I tested 7 different slug loads, fired as many rounds I could of each loads from the lowest velocity to the highest:
Slugs tested:
Score High Velocity 2 ¾ 1 oz (1500 FPS)
*Wouldn't feed the first and last round.
Score High Velocity 2 ¾ 1 ⅛ oz (1550 FPS)
*Wouldn't feed the first and last round.
Fiocchi Exacta Aero 2 ¾ 1 oz (1560 FPS)
*No issues whatsoever.
Score Slug 32 2 ¾ 32 gr. (1560 FPS)
Federal Power Chok 2 ¾ 1 oz (1610 FPS)
*Worked the best.
Winchester Rack-Master 2 ¾ 1 ⅛ oz (1625 FPS)
*No issues whatsoever.
Winchester X-Super 3 inch 1 oz (1760 FPS)
*The gun is too light to handle the recoil

Accuracy: all within one inch as long as I could get the choke in place.

Final verdict:
If you’re like me and have access to a private range to shoot water jugs and steel plates I say go for it. If you're planning to use the unit for three-gun competitions or deer hunting, you risk of being disappointed.
