A very lightly used upper Sandusky m37 was in the rack at the LGS today. Boy the pump was smooth. Like unreal smooth.

The gun was a featherlight "field" gun, which is odd since it had a vent rib. Apparently ribs on field guns is the new normal.

The only complaint i had is that I got a good look at the new "machine engraved" field scenes on the receiver. Dear god it looked awful. Like a 6 year old drew it there with a sharpie that could engrave metal. It ruined the whole gun for me.

The older roll-stamped and flat sanded scene was finely done on the king ferry and earlier examples and actually looked like real cut engraving. This new look is clearly done with a rotary cutter and it looks cheap. Really cheap.

I think if I buy a new Ithaca product it will be a loose barrel for an older receiver or a non-featherlight model so I can skip that awful hokey rubbish they are putting in the sides.

So disappointed :(. And it's a $1400+ gun new!!! This used one was $899.

I am afraid with my build and shorter (14") LOP needs the new model 37's would be a problem compared to my old one. I have two BPS models and I had to trim both stocks on them. Mostly due to the longer receiver. I doubt there is ANY pump out there I would spend more than 500.00 anyways.

What is on the sides doesn't make the gun. Are you buying something that will work for a lifetime or pretty.
Sorry but pretty is one of the last things I care about in a firearm
Lets be honest if they were priced reasonable it would have come home with you ugly sides or not
I went through the same thing when I bought the 28ga. it took almost a year before I convinced myself to pay over a grand for an old pump and thought I was crazy
After I took it apart to clean it I seen how it was made I said nope it was worth the cash but again a hard pill to swallow at the time
Cheers

The single biggest reason I didn't buy it is that it was 12 gauge and I have that to death already. The make a "Waterfowl" 37 now that does not have the enraged scenes but otherwise looks like a 37. If new ones could be had for reasonable money, that is what I would get, but not in a 12.

You never said it was a 12ga:) I would not pay that kind of money for one new in 12ga if it had the best engraving I have ever seen
To me only 16, 20 and 28 are worth the bucks and 20 is a maybe to me
Cheers

Not currently. Trigger Wholesale is the exclusive importer/distributor and they aren;t bringing any in currently. Supposedly the dollar makes it unprofitable right now.

You could get irunguns or prophet river to import one for you.

I purchased a 37 waterfowl last year. In my opinion, it's by far the best pump on the market today. That said. I could have bought a good semi for the price.

I almost bought a 12g waterfowl on clearance with a spare 18.5" defence barrel from NAS in December for $699. Still kicking myself for not buying it.

And that's you, would you want your new truck covered in cheap and cheesey decals or vinyl wrap? Engravings may not be that bad but when they're done badly I'd pass, there is enough vintage and equal quality shotguns for the price point.

Talk about apples and a watermelon comparison. Who in the hell sees you with your gun vs your truck. On the ithaca show me a vintage VR choke tube one. NOT
To each their own
Cheers

In theory, you can put a new barrel on an older receiver if over 855,000.

Yes and have you priced a new VR choke tubed ithaca barrel. If you haven't best sit down. I would say probaly one of the most expensive shotgun barrels to buy right now and that was when the US dollar was almost equal I priced one and it was like over $500 then and I still had to get it up from the US
Cheeper to send the old barrel to Briley and have tubes fitted
Cheers
