The New SKS build - warning, Tacticoolishness

This was part way through my build. Tapco SKS Blade stock. Magpul 4 posistion stock. I have since changed the handguard on the upper and ordered an optic mount and shell deflector. It's a '59 Tula. Sits beside my '53 Tula in the safe. The '53 is all factory.

makes me want to buy an SKS and mod it... darn you ! I sold it because I went VZ, then sold the VZ to get AR15 but I'm lacking non restricted fun toy now

seems like I'm always gonna post pone the pistol buy ! sigh...

That is the main reason I have the setup that I do, I wanted a black rifle in NR that I can go out to the bush with and be able to hunt with as well. Can't wait to try it out and see how she runs this week, need to get a better optic than that silly tasco. Nice thing too is I can have an original SKS and this one for less money than a decent AR.

did you chop de barrel or you just removed the sight and bayolug ? I'd like to see the accuracy with an 18inch barrel thats the kind of setup I'd like.

Just removed the front sight and bayonet lug. I was thinking about cutting it down to 18.5 or soand getting it threaded for muzzle devices. But for now the long barrel is fine.

haaaa stock giving me ideas... just saw that they sell tapco stocked SKS for 360$ and It's killing me not to buy and put a couple hundreds on it to make it a bush beast

I really like the UTG quad rail you have on there.

Thanks, It is really well made and fits great, I put it in place of the hand guard for this setup. Normally they say it supposed to fit over what ever hand guard you have with it but seeing as this was the tasco stock with a rail molded into the upper hand guard it was a no go. So I just left the tasco guard off and the UTG rail covers the whole thing.

18.5" paratrooper clone with sevensixtwo mag system and Phoenix Technologies kick lite mossy oak stock. Haven't tried it yet and is still unfinished.

Heard the stock reduces recoil by 50%. About $1k total with the chop and trigger job.

Mostly labour and add ons, adds up quickly when it's a custom job by a gunsmith.

And you say you haven't even shot it yet?
I did an SKS up in a bit less drastic fashion a few years years ago without trying the rifle out along the process. I just had an idea and picture in my head and I was going to execute it.
After finally shooting it I quickly realized just how much of the work I did was a waste. All mainly comfort and functionality issues.

I hear ya, if I'd do it all again I'd skip the optics mount and red dot. However I'm really proud of the 18.5" barrel which I recommend the OP to do, it will be shorter and really balances things out. I'd like to add that I installed the Sevensixtwo AK mag release system without regrets.
