---

So far I have 1400$ saved up.

I've owned Mini 14's. SU 16's. I don't like T 97's (or any bull pup for that matter) I've owned M14's,

I like SKS's and own some. But not what I'm looking for here...

I'm considering a T81, but I kind of want something now.

What about FAMAE 540?

Are they good?

What about an XCR?

Are they good?

Feeling lost.

Save more money. 1400$ doesn't buy much. A new VZ58 in 5.56 or 7.62 is what I would recommend in the 1400$ range. Good rifle plus you can Barbie the hell out of it.

540 is OK, accessories are super expensive. Soft shooting though. XCR is also OK. I've had both and sold both. 540 is a bit too old school for me, and I prefer guns that run AR mags (when the rifle is in 5.56). I had my XCR for longer than the SG540. I sold the SG540 after about 100 rounds when I figured it just felt too dated for me. I have been considering picking up an XCR 7.62x39 lately. Good parts availability for the XCR, and mine was reliable. Didn't break any parts on it in ~1800 ish rounds. I prefer the more modern feel of the XCR/Tavor etc to the SG540. Just my opinion.

If the tavor (I still have my Tavor, and it is a great rifle) is a no go, another option is the ACR. But you will need more than $1400 for any of these. There is an XCR in the EE for $1800 right now I believe, but that is about as cheap as its going to get.

Feel free to ask any questions you like. I've never owned an ACR, but I've had a few of the other non restricted black(ish) rifles.

Unless an XCR was in the exact configuration (caliber, barrel profile, colour, keymod, etc) I wanted I would try to pick a used one up for <$2000. I would maybe pay more if it was exactly what I was looking for haha.

I shot you a PM with the 5.56 XCR I saw in the EE.

Ben

Edited to add - there are actually a few on there for <$2400 in good shape.

I have a keymod gen xcr in 7.62x39. Love it. Lighter than the older gens and way more reliable. Thinking about getting the .223 conversion kit for it so I can have both. Takes about 1 min to change between kits. Which is nice to have the interchangeability of an xcr just incase you don't like the caliber it's not a write off. Ergos are great on it. I have it forsale to fund a precision rifle, but I just picked up a nice rifle so think I'm just going to keep enjoying xcr. It's fun to romp around the bush with a black gun, plus you can get yotes with it too!

I originally wasn't into the Tavor either - come over to the dark side...

Kidding aside though, both the XCR and SG540 are good, just depends what you are into. You are looking at pretty big money for a modern varminter from ATRS. I have no doubt it would be a sweet rig though.

Personally I'm not that into shotgunish ergonomics, so I wouldn't buy an MR1. That is just my opinion though.

I'm pretty sure you'd enjoy an XCR.

You've had a few guns that obviously didn't scratch the itch, and $1400 doesn't buy much for a back scratcher.
Save another $1000 and ask your Q again.

I have fewer guns than most but they're quality. Buy quality and the itch goes away.
My XCR was a good choice for me, but that budget opens many doors.
