Buying a colt le6940, for example, from the U.S will save you $650-700 after all exchange rates, taxes and tarrifs and shipping to your house, compared to buying the same gun in Canada. That is ridiculous. Canadian retailers need to step it up.

Buy one then, and let us know exactly how much it came to when all said and done. And how many months you waited.

CDN dealers have to buy even when our dollar is weak and tie up a lot of cash for many many months to bring these in for us. And try to make a small margin on top of it to survive in our very limited market.

I cannot buy one yet. But the fact remains. you pay exchange rate + tarrif if any + shipping plus GST. When all said is done at current prices I would pay $2070 vs $2762 if shipping is $50 for both. There are no hidden fees that i didnt mention. The wait would be 1 month maximum since the item is in stock vs 1 week or so in Canada. I would rather buy from Canada but obviously will not with price differences like that. If its a saving of $20-$30 i will buy in Canada but not hundreds of dollars.

Hahaha... 1 month maximum? Are you sure?

What about permits to export through state department?

What about the processing costs for the dealer?

What if you need to ship it back for warranty or return for whatever reason?

Think again, the dealers do a hell of lot for us, save yourself the headache and buy in Canada.

I think he's talking about getting it through irunguns which if you order it around the 13-14th of the month you should be getting it within a month unless there's unforseen delays.

Could you not buy a Colt Canada in that neighbourhood, or less if you are willing to build a lower from a stripped CC one?

If you are specifically buying from IRG then yes, lots of us have already done so. There are many other limitations.
To equate one store with the entire USA shows you are a noob. IRG is a sponsor on CGN so you can even provide a clickable link

Do us a favour, if your going to come on here and act like we just rolled off the Turnip wagon how about a little math to show us the error of our ways. Where are you getting this flat shipping rate? Shipping across an international border isn't free, you want it shipped today your going to pay. IRG does it all themselves so their shipping cost are less, but that's an exception, don't expect your going to find a great deal and a fixed shipping fee.

As others have said it's not a simple process, you have two governments involved, several middle men (transport company, FFL, etc.), and here's one you may not have considered, some places won't sell to a Canadian (because we're Communist as I've been told a few times).

I cannot buy one yet.

I'll bet I know why...

He could but they don't meet his high standard because they are always in stock...:p

I guess the big question is, if you are prepared to do a lot of the leg work, then go for it. A savings is a savings but is your time worth anything to do it? I am all for business making money, they need to live too, and I am always looking to save my hard earned money. Yes there is exchange difference, paper work to do and other things to consider, and if the difference is that much, go for it.

In 2008 I wanted to buy a Hummer H3. I priced out the exact one I wanted here in canada, it came up to $63,000 (I wanted all the bells and whistles as well this was the first year it could come with a V8 engine). That was a little too much for my liking. I spent hours searching the web, and found the exact hummer I wanted in Indiana. It was a dealer demo with 5,000 miles. They were having a hard time selling them (gas prices, recession) and were asking $28,999 USD. The exchange being favorable, after all my costs, and taxes I ended up paying $34,500 canadian total. Well worth the time and effort I put in to get the same car here for half the price (I even had to fly to Chicago to pick up and drive back home).

Your time is worth something. If you still feel you can save and are willing then go for it.

Your example is due to the Head Office setting the price, not the Canadian Dealers gouging customers. Just saying...

Yes I am a noob. Does that change the facts though? I would save $700 buying from irunguns than buying from any Canadian retailer if i bought that gun. That is just one gun example. You can buy many others and save hundreds as well. And what are these "many other limitations" that you are talking about?

Irunguns tells you its $25 flat shipping across the border. You just answered your own question. Dont get so emotional and rude every time you reply. Its not healthy. Its pretty sad that i frequent ar15.com and i only come across rude people such as yourself in Canadian forums. Far too many rude people in here.

wtf? I transport stuff across the border Jr. so I have half a clue (at one time rifles). IRG's shipping fees are due to them doing the shipping themselves, not UPS etc., that's why it's done once a month. Read a little on the Internet and you think you've got it all figured out eh? Sorry, but the more you speak the clearer it is you need to do a bit more listening.

I love it! I'm rude...who's being rude, your inferring we're all getting hosed, or US forum frequenters are so much more knowledgeable then us Canuk's. I'm just pointing out that you really don't appear to have a clue. Go back to AR15.com then if I'm hurting your feelings.

I have almost always tried to support out Sponsors, or at least Canadian Suppliers, but the OP is correct. Especially in the firearms department. Not only can you save $$$ by importing the items, you have more choices than what yhey are willing or can bring in.

i purchased a Colt Competition 9mm a few months back when the dollar was at a point lower than it is now. Even with exchange taxes, and shipping 2x $25, i paid a grand total of $1043, compared with another sponsor that only had the 45acp version for $1375 at the time. That is a savings of $332. I ordered it on the 13th and recieved it on the 8th of the following month. For that savings I'll wait 45 days. Got a call today if i want the 45acp as I Run Guns has them in stock right now. Better exchange rate, minus $25 US/Canada shipping = even better deal.

Don't know how they can do it without the $200-$250 import fee like other companies, most likely they do because they don't import per item, and do it per order so they wait untill the 15th to bring EVERTHING in at once. Saving in shipping also as they can be shipped all at once. Making it more economical to the customer to bring in lower cost items also. Just my thoughts.

Again stop being so emotional and angry. But thanks for proving my point. And I didn't say anything about you not having any experience with transporting stuff across the border. Not even sure why you brought that up Jr. Yet you tell me i have to do more listening lol. And yes I do have it all figured out for this. I can save hundreds of dollars buying from Irunguns and its easily proven. Are you saying otherwise? Tell me which part I dont have a clue about lol. Tell me that I wouldn't save hundreds of dollars buying from irunguns in the u.s and $700 buying a colt le6940 from irunguns in the u.s than buying it from Canada. Tell me all about how clueless I am.

I've bought from IRUNGUNS twice and was very satisfied with both transactions.

The wait wasn't very long either for the goods to cross the border(s, national and provincial) and reach my grubby little hands.

I would agree that they can offer some very good values, even with the exchange rate where it is, but like any merchant, not on everything.

Some Cdn retailers still have stock available at prices that reflect an exchange rate that was better for Cdn purchasers, so you may be able to pay (close to) the same or even less, have faster delivery, and, should you require warranty assistance, POSSIBLY have fewer problems (because threads have indicated that IRUNGUNS WILL help customers who have difficulty with purchases).

As with anything YMMV, but I found it worthwhile to deal with IRUNGUNS and would do so again.

But I'd certainly shop with SRFC, Wolverine, and any # of Canadian stores also.

Cheers, and good hunting.

...er, shopping.

Its true. And people seem to get angry about that fact that you are saving hundreds of dollars buying from the U.S.
