So I am pretty much minding my own business, pushing my 98 year old mother in her wheelchair on her afternoon walk 'taking the air' ( mother is English and 'takes the air'even in the winter) She mainly likes to see dogs and wants to stop and pet every dog we see,and the owners are very good about it....anyway,mother sees this little terrier across the street and insists to be taken over to see it....the dog owner was obviously very proud of his dog and proceeds to tell us it's a pure bred dog ,it's pedigree and parentage...now I don't understand all this stuff,so I say 'you mean it's a hunting dog'?...the owner recoils at this and says,no,it's a city dog,it's not a hunting dog, hunting is cruel and unethical,we have no need to kill innocent animals ..so that pretty well gives me the green light,I swear I don't go looking for this ....'so what do you do when your dog sees a rabbit -do you him off the leash and let him chase it? The guy says 'absolutely not ,we would never allow our dog to harass innocent animals ' .( the guy is walking right into it) I then say, well it seems to me this dog has been bred to hunt for hundreds of years and what gives YOU the right to impose YOUR moral views on your dog? ...Seems to me you are creating serious conflicts in your dog between his genetics by you refusing to let him follow his natural instincts .See,I am a canine behavioural expert and I can already see this is creating huge anxieties in your dog and it's going to take a lot of expensive therapy to corrct the damage you have already done to him....this is a clear case of animal cruelty...if you don't want to hunt, that's your business but who gives YOU the right to impose that on a hunting dog that is only doing what his genetic imprint has programmed him to do? ....the poor guy kinda stammered a bit and said he 'never thought about it that way' and I gave him the coup de grace by telling him what he was doing was 'no diferent than keeping chickens penned up in small cages,or confining steers in a feed lot ',it just wasn't natural

Tell ya, its like shooting fish in a barrel...you gotta try it sometime

Sometimes you just have to turn the tables and go on the offensive with these so called 'ethical' people
ps...I'm not a 'canine behavioural expert' but it sounds good...

Meh, all I read here is a guy high on his horse was put in his place by a guy on a soapbox.

Doesn't seem to sporting to shoot fish in a barrel, but whatever floats yer boat.......

Hunting is cruel ? I would of replied " u are lucky ur ancestors were successful hunters or you wouldn't be alive and able to be so ignorant "

Talk about imposing ridiculous morals on an animal.

We were in Ontario last summer at my brother's. His step-daughter was there, with a skinny dog.

Her and me end up at the bbq at the same time, and as I'm making my meaty selection, she tells me, "I can't eat that, I'm a 'Vegan'." Then she grabbed this other funny looking patty (which apparently was a veggie burger).

And not only is she a 'Vegan', her dog is too...

So then I understood why it was all c*ck and ribs.

And the funniest thing is, the dog was doing what dogs are intended to do, it was running around scarfing up every unattended hotdog and burger that it could. And the loonie 'Vegan' wench was beside herself, that the dog was eating all that meat.

to add more fuel to the fire here ...... lately more and more humans are being regarded legally as guardian's not owners of dogs .

I believe France has recently passed laws along these lines , with more governments pressured to do things in a similar manner .
I want to say the term ‘Sentient Beings’ rather than property was the term used .

so to carry things to their extreme full conclusion , if a hunting dog was owned by a rabid foaming at the mouth anti hunter and they where depriving their hunting dog from doing what it was naturally meant to do it may be possible to have the dog removed from their " guardianship " and placed under the guardianship of someone who would take it hunting .

this is also opening up a whole new can of worms that I won't get into .

Making choices like that for your dog isn't right, what dog would ever choose to be a Vegan. I would have tossed the dog a piece of meat to see if it would go for it.
