Doing my black badge tomorrow

I am doing mine on May 27th to the 29th I am sooo stooked...
I a had a blast at the meet and great.
Stefan
Yah the meet and greet was fun for sure! How's your knee doing Stefan ? I personally never thought "aerobics" with a "hot" pistol while keeping "90" would be included! But was fun for sure and great experience!
Oh btw Stefan I'll put it out there for you incase you didn't know or hear.? We are running practice nights every second Thursday and if we choose and are avail? the members we had at the greet with plus a couple more experienced ipsc shooters said if we want make a quick couple call and we can do any informal training provided if a few are avail and want to do extra practice!

To make a Correction... Hangun Practice Night - IPSC Discipline is almost every Thursday Evening from 6pm-8pm depending on the interest involved. There is a list on the Eganville and District Sportsman's Club of the Dates of Practice Nights.

I'm pretty green, and my lessons learned so far has been:

Tell the RO you're a new shooter and this is your BB match.
Pay attention to the 90.
Say thank you to everyone who has a tip (even if it's not much of a tip).
Buddy up with a vet on your squad.
Introduce yourself to everyone you shoot with.

Things they don't tell you:
Bring a chair and stuff you'd need if you were working outside. (hat, water, snack, sunscreen etc)
Make a plan and stick to it. You're likely not to be #1, so just plan and execute it cleanly.
Practice the stage at the speed you'll be shooting it. Stride length is different when you run!
Ask a question about the stage briefing when you've got the chance.
Check your targets when they score them.
Bring wet wipes.
Pick brass at the end of the day, there'll be some left over (unless you're looking for 45 and super)
Figure out ways to make the shooting easier, faster comes quickly with comfort.

And yeah, broke and smiling.

Good post. :)

So what does the black badge course do?
What is it?
What does it qualify you to do vice someone who doesn't have a "black badge"?
I'm not being cynical, I keep hearing a lot about it but I have absolutely no idea what it is or why it is sought out.
Someone educate me please.

So what does the black badge course do?
It's a 2 day certification course that certifies you to shoot IPSC Competitions held within Canada.
If you want to shoot IPSC; you take and pass the shooting tests during it.
If you don't want to shoot IPSC - you can forget all about it.

Some ranges also require you are holster certified in some shape or form before you can shoot from a holster. This could cover you for the range, you can shoot IPSC Matches or IDPA Matches, alothough IDPA has a holster course as well but not as indepth as the Black Badge Course.

I shoot IPSC and have a bunch of fun. I don't really get competitive per se but enjoy the day out at the Range and enjoy shooting the Matches compared to standing and shooting at targets at the end of the berm.

EOSC and RA have courses in your are if your are from Ottawa Area. Eganville has Matches and Courses if your are closer to Pembroke Area. Go check them out and you never know you just might find a fun Match to shoot and meet a whole bunch more people...

Ah! So there is an actual point to it.
I always assumed it was just dudes doing it so they could walk around saying they were "black badged" been there/done that or something.
It's essentially a pre-requisite course so you can shoot IPSC at national level.
Thanks for the info Sir.

It is also a standard that a number of clubs piggy-back on, and use as a requirement for certain non-IPSC activities at their club. For example, at our steel shoots, you cannot draw from a holster if you do not have a Black Badge cert. You can still play, but you have to start from a low-ready position. This is just an example, there are others.

I have one coming up in two weeks and I am looking forward to it. I got an IPSC belt and one comp mag holder but the rest is cheap fobus stuff because my good holster rides too low. By the end of the year I will likely switch to my 1911 once I get more 8 round mags.

Regardless its going to be fun. My goal is no DQ and shoot accurately. The rest will come.

Anyone got a suggestion for a Sig 226 holster?

Well that's good that your knees fared out ..... I swear, I went home and could hear the rust I had broken up my knee For the rest of the evening!
That's great that you will be able to make it up. I will for sure make the match..... Yes loading must be done and finalizing some gear!
But I'm really hoping to get to some other matches in Ontario and area pending how work and timing goes.
I should ask you are you aware of some fun matches coming up in your area at all?

Thank you for the correction Gemini ! This is going to make this a lot easier for me to attend practice nights if there held every Thursday . Don't kno how I got that in my head that it was every second Thursday ....?? 😣 but now knowing different this will be easier to make Thursday practice, since I drive truck...
I just gotta get it together and make it happen I'm at practice, plus I will tell Fran's also.....
