SAM vs Kimber?

+1 Although the Kimbers look nicer, I faced the same decision a couple of years ago and went with STI one Spartan & one Trojan never happier..

+1 I'll put my STI Trojan Longslide up against anything out there ! (accuracy wise !)

SAM's are hand fitted, "custom production" guns.

Kimbers are higher quality, production guns. Not hand fitted though.

If you own a SAM for long enough, other production 1911's just look like guns put together by neanderthals. I wouldn't switch brands.

They are hand fitted guns. They are not the best hand fitted guns, and some of the finishes/parts are not top of the line, but they are fitted better than regular production guns costing double or more.

I've had both Kimber and SAM. Both excellent. Pick your budget and let that decide. You can't lose on either IMO. I use Tripp Cobra mags in both.

Huh. That's werid mine came from wolverine with a mec gar magazine

ive got 2 SAMs and my dad has 3, all 5 came with ACT mags.

regarding magazines, I've got a line on a bunch of 9mm Kimber. are they any good? reliable?

I've ready about 9mm Kimber 1911's having feeding issues, which could be the gun, or the mag or a combination of both.

Kimber magazines are not good magazines in any calibre. Wilson Combat or Tripp are better choices for 9mm 1911 magazines. The new Chip McCormick XP magazines might also be a good choice.

Generally, OEM 1911 magazines should not be trusted.

Brownells is good, though lacking in stock right now. I believe that Tripp Research will also ship to Canada.

Uh?

Commander grips are the same as Govt; Trip magazines have a slightly larger base plate to accommodate the two extra rounds. You gun won't know if it's 9 or 10 rounds

sorry folks, I have limited experience with pistols and their magazines.

the SAM comes with a 9 round mag, which made me think that it requires something different, smaller(?) than usual?

if a 10 round mag will sit flush and not cause any problems, even better.

can someone clarify that for me? thanks.
