Soo my Type 97 just blew up on me

At the Range today, shot 20rds of PMC out of it with no issues, put it aside for a bit and shot some other stuff. Then I loaded up some of my reloads with 24.8grs of IMR 4320. I have used this load in it before with no issues and in other guns. I did set the gas system to 0 so it would not fling the reloadable brass to far. I am pretty careful about brass and try not to use the same brass to much, likely this one is on it's 2-3rd reload. My face got a good case of "roadrash and a fat lip" Nothing hit my safety glasses.

No kidding, glad to know you're fine. At least we have some data and results now on catastrophic failure with a T97. Do you think you may have over charged it a little?

I quarantined that batch of ammo and will pull it and check. At that charge there is very little room left, Hodgson site says 23-25.5gr so I am not at max. My pro 1000 is quite consistent in it's throws. There could have been some left over media in the case to cause compression i suppose, but I am quite careful to fondle the cases while the are being cleaned, deprimed, re-sized and checked for length. Normally I see neck issues which causes me to toss the case. I had to drive home for an hour and have not tried to disassemble the gun, the action is stuck, will try to take apart later and will post some more pictures.

Slightly more ugly

Damn first real boom I've seen. Good thing you're okay.

Curious to see how it all looks if you can get it pulled apart.

Too bad it was hand loads so any chance of warranty is toast.

The rash on my face is where the 2 bit came apart and into my face. I suspect metal if properly secured would not have split like that. Makes for an interesting discussion in it's own right.

glad you are ok!
Makes me wonder though if i should ever get into reloading.....seems like alot of variables and possible dangers.....might just stick to factory ammo for now

give us an update if you find anything with regards to reloads

Glad your ok that's unreal! How would the warranty center know anyways if they were reloads or not being fired.....of course when you send it in tell them it was factory ammo....I hope it wasn't a site sponsor and hope they dont see this thread with you saying you were using reloaded ammo......most importantly you are ok.....secondly I hope you get a new T97 outta the deal
