Soo my Type 97 just blew up on me

First I am really glad you are ok.
Second, my one and only advice to all gun owners : do not waste your money on a t97

As the other one I mentioned was with factory ammo, I'm thinking it is not a reload issue.

I'm thinking it is an OOB issue, perhaps soft primers.
Thoughts?

IIRC, the Egyptian contract FN-49 had a floating firing pin, and that resulted in a few going poof too.
And no one would say that FN is crap.

Wrong powder?

I am taking all my ammo apart (as soon as I fix my puller, grrr) and then I will know, the hopper appears to have 4320 in it and the throw is right. I have got through 15 or so bullets so it be a bit before I can say. Looked at the stats for the other rifle powders I have and nothing really different.

Wow. I used to own one of these... sold it to buy an engagement ring about two and a half years ago... still not sure I made the right decision... Bwahahaha *ahem* seriously though, I think we can all say we are glad you're okay mate!

I have a feeling all your hand loads are fine.

To the new T97 warranty business... if you did get a new one, it might be hard to fight that flinch in the future! ;)

^^^^^^
For real? Selling this garbage and buy yourself a python is a good decision, so the ring you got is x100 better

Glad your ok that's unreal! How would the warranty center know anyways if they were reloads or not being fired.....of course when you send it in tell them it was factory ammo....I hope it wasn't a site sponsor and hope they dont see this thread with you saying you were using reloaded ammo......most importantly you are ok.....secondly I hope you get a new T97 outta the deal
So where do the concepts of dishonesty and lying come into play? Is this honestly how people live their lives?

With some of these guns having feed issues, pushing the bullet further into the case and jamming, I wonder if it is possible that a bullet would begin to compress into the case then skip up and feed into the breach. That could account for the increased pressure and detonation.

Just a theory.

Edit: like canada tail's post that I now see got posted after I started reading....

Same issue even with factory ammo North Sylvia told this guy to F*** OFF

Yup, if you didn't do a decently tight crimp your reloads (and the bullet does not have a cannelure) that does not surprise me at all. The norc ammo I used with mine was not crimped well so the bullet would get pushed into the case which my guess is what caused your catastrophic failure. Those guns are rough on ammo. I always wondered what would happen if one of those rounds went off... Just shows the importance of crimping when reloading with semi auto rifles IMO.

The compressed load load due to set back bullet theory is a possibility too.
That would explain both factory and reloads having blown up.
It would also explain the "over pressure" that NS says caused it.

The bigger issue is WHY does the T-97 have so many crunched rounds? I have had it myself, but fortunately they didnt feed in at all.
Colin, have you had any crunched rounds before?
And have you polished the feed ramps at all? (I have not.)

I thought the bullet being pushed back (and people carving new feed ramps) was because the rifle used slightly different magazines but people still want to use standard AR mags?
