Hi Guys
Waited for a long bunch of months for my new Ruger#1 in 257 Weatherby, she came from the factory with a 28 inch barrel, and I have been loading for a bit now,
Found the most accurate load for 100GR swift Scirrocco11 bullets with 75 gr of IMR7828
No marks, no loose primer pockets, but cronographing at 3750fps
This seams really bloody fast

Started at 70gr and worked up from there, groups with this gun are terrible till you hit max loads.
3-4 inch groups
but at 75gr less than one inch.
I wanted a good tough bullet and one with a good BC
Anyone else seeing numbers like this with there 257?
Thanks Lee

It's getting up there, but with a 28" barrel, it's not way out of reason. I would load and fire a few cases five times with your load, and then see if the primer pockets loosen significantly. However, I would be careful with that load in warmer weather, as IMR7828 is fairly sensitive to temperature.

Thanks Stubblejumper
It was the only sutable powder I had in stock for the bee, I do have have some 4831 is it better suited? Or should I break down and get some 7977 or h1000 or Rutumbo instead?

Thats a VERY HOT load in a 257 Bee ! with a 28 " and that load i can see you getting up in the 3700 fps range ! I use 71 grs for 3500 + fps (24 " ) in mine . My next powder to try is RL26 - Guys are using it and getting great FPS and Accuracy in all sorts of cartridges and its NOT temp sensitive ! jmo RJ

Your load is within the realm of reason.........I found RL 25 to be magic in the 257 Bee and get 3600 from 26" barrel with 110 ABs and 1/2 moa accuracy. Can't complain about a load like that..........I think with IMR 7828 you may well be on the warm side though. Also as mentioned 7828 tends to be quite temp sensitive.

The velocity seems high but I don't have a 28" pipe so will stay out of that one.

Something I will add is that you can get bit by compressed loads of 7828. I think it was a couple years before when it happened to me on two rifles; a .257 and .300 Weatherby. On both a compressed load of 7828 was giving good speed, accuracy and acceptable pressures by my normal standards. Hunted both rifles that fall and the ammo sat over the winter. Come spring the first shot locked the bolt up solid, trip to the gunsmith solid. Tore down all the ammo, and couldn't find anything wrong with the remainder except that I had to use a wood screw to auger the powder out of the cases. Worked back to the same charge without issue. Wrote it off as one of those mysteries for the time being. No damage to the rifle.

Shortly after that I tried the .300. First shot and whamo, locked bolt, trip back to the same gunsmith. Once again there was nothing to find on the remaining ammo except that it was "drill the ##### out" compacted. Worked up the loads again; again no problem reaching the same loads. Backed off both loads a full two grains and there hasn't been a problem since.

Not saying its going to happen to you, just that if you've got a helmet.......................................;)

Where can you buy Swift Scirroco bullets in Canada?
Thanks

CI Distribution used to, might have some left. Doug Raynor usually has some. Lots of guys including some of the sponsers will order them. Jerry T and Henry N come to mind, they've got them in for me.

Is that with that specific powder only? I'm compressing h1000 in a 300 win mag load and do not want any similar experiences.
