how often do you clean your .22LR pistols?

I don't worry about my ruger 22/45 much but I clean my 1911 kimber 22 every second or third trip just because I figure the 1911 style is probably a little more finicky.

I have to say that I must clean it after every range visit. For both my 10/22 and M&P S&W 22. It is because of my military training I just can't have a dirty firearms put back into my safe. As for me it doesn't take me that long to clean them so it is basically out of habit.

.22's by their nature of being a heeled bullet gain accuracy with fouling. The powder residue builds up in the groove and promotes a better seal of the gas that is propelling the bullet down the bore. More is better (to a point) Eley recommends dry patching, and oiled patching (q tips work GREAT for this) When accuracy cannot be brought back thru patching, a full clean is recommended.

Cleaning the chamber does need to be done every 500 rounds or so. Lead rings removed etc.

PS, I have seen the damage done to a .22 barrel with overcleaning... it is not pretty. The grooves are too fine (and fragile compared to centerfire) to take much scrubbing.

I haven't seen many .22 barrels worn out from shooting, but I have seen my fair share worn out from excessive cleaning.

Ever since i was a kid cleaning a gun was just the last part of shooting a gun. I clean all my guns when i get home from shooting. Maybe not always a complete tear down bumper to bumber job but at the very least a few patches down the barrel with some solvent, some light oil and a wipe down to get rid of handling smudges. I enjoy the time i spend cleaning my guns, its a good way to wind down for me.

I clean all the moving parts with a cloth, and lightly re-oil after every trip. I almost never clean the barrel.

I usually clean my Ruger MKIII after 700-1000 rounds. The gun is still functioning flawlessly but it look pretty dirty inside. Il sure the gun could go 3000 rounds before any real problems.

by cleaning after each shooting session I don't need to use a brush, a good cleaning with only cloth/patch, so I don't think I will ending up with damaging it
