My refinished 1935 Tula Mosin Nagant

My guess would be Beech. It's pretty easy to work with, takes stain pretty well. What did the 91/30 look like before you stripped it???

Is there any actual collector value to the "Hex" 91/30? These are pretty cheap and plentiful rifles, I know the Hex is harder to find though.

^ Arctic Birch.

Cheap and plentiful, just like the K98s and Enfields were right? ;)

Another one bites the dust.

I hate arctic birch... tough wood to work with. OP did a great job with a wood that can be difficult.

You can buy them by the skid then, if you choose. Even the scarcer M38 and 44 aren't going for that much money.

I take it you don't like what the OP did to his rifle? His $200 rifle is most likely still worth $200.

I did a little research and found that my Hex had a postwar stock , if it had been a prewar matching stock i would have left it as is . I paid an extra 50 bucks for the Hex reciever version when i bought it . It was a gross orangy yellow color lol

Wood finish looks very nice, but IMO grooves on the stock are grossly oversanded. I'd keep escutcheons in the white too.

i'd keep escutcheons in the white too? i dont understand your comment? , The title of my post is "Refinished" not keep the same old beat up look , i don't care about keeping it looking like it did 80 years ago

Great job Ispeed! Looks fantastic, now if you had refinished a true sniper i would agree with another one bites the dust ;)
however no harm with this rifle and i think it really makes it "pop" now

should've then added to the title - Only "pat on the back" comments accepted ;)

I don't recall asking you how you would like me to refinish my rifle , there is a big difference between saying you like or dislike what someone has done and telling them how they should have done it.

Thank you its my first attempt at refinishing a gun its not perfect by any means but it was fun seeing the result .Yeah i didn't see the harm on refinishing when i found out the stock was just a beatup post war unit slapped on to make a rifle , if it was a matching numbers Hex i would have left it alone

Well, I'll take a chance here and say again - very nice! Although I am not into refinishing milsurp rifles, the OP has done a nice job. I told that to a fellow who was showing us an old rifle and got pounded because I told him it was nice.

Good that we hammer people who show us their rifles - not! I kind of gave up showing my stuff because often the thread goes off on a side track. OP, you have nothing to be worried about. It is your rifle. (Jeez, I didn't think I would catch myself saying that)

Yeah it happens on every forum not just guns , any car truck or motorcycle forum always has that one guy on it lol Thankyou

Not quite true. The stock you have on that rife was also used by Tula from mid 42 and izhevsk from mid 1944. The orange color was due to the shellac the soviets applied to the stock.

The stock is 100% a post-war stock. For pressed escutcheons, Izhevsk sniper stocks have no cutouts and Mednogorsk stocks have a tiny cutout that is round.
