VZhukov 58 project (the blackest NR vz58 ever)

got some photos i just received my AK FSB.

have a look if you want in my library : http://s376.photobucket.com/user/vince357/library/?sort=2&page=1

They are different, the retaining pins locations is different.

Im considering cutting the barrel. Is this an option??? Legally would my rifle still be non restricted?
if i cut lets say 2"? would it affect accuracy? would affect reliability?

I would ask my machinist to cut the barrel just behind the Original FSB. rethread the barrel, make some grooves for the ak front sight retaining pins. opposite side of the vz58.

Cutting it makes it Prohib. Best you can do for a shorter barrel is to get Dlask to rebarrel it and register it as restricted. If they're still doing barrels.
To much of a pain in the ass if you ask me.

I think they're 19" barrels so you have about a 1/2" you can take off and stay legal. 1/2" for the work is not worth it IMO

Not sure I understand this turning a VZ58 into looking like an AK47 fascination (because I think the VZ is a better gun) but have to admit I always enjoyi looking at the creations guys come up with.

Unfortunately i cant remove the barrel like ar15.. it would be so simple to buy another barrel.

So legally i cant cut my barrel re-registrer it as restricted with shorter barrel?
What you meant with "get Dlask to rebarrel it?" remove the actual barrel and put another one?

or have em modify my own barrel?

They were offering to press out the old barrel thread the receiver and install a new barrel.

You can not cut a Semi auto barrel shorter than 18.5. If you do it becomes prohibited. You can install a new manufactured barrel that's shorter and have it registered as restricted.

that is so stupid the "results" would be same. Cutting or installing a new barrel.. whats the difference? it makes the rifle smaller AND restricted.

so prohibited if you do it yourself with good intentions.. on the other hand restricted its OK if you buy/install a new barrel and have it registered as restricted.

I wasnt sure about that one this is why i asked here...

Well, cutting below 18" would make it prohib. It's only restricted under 18.5". But is the half inch worth it? Gotta love our poorly worded laws

my vz74 project has taken a huge step forward yesterday.

Finally got the front sight block removed.. but damn it wasnt easy at all. Only managed to punch one of the two retaining pins... but that didnt stopped me. a Grinder and a dremel allowed me to remove the sight and mission accomplished without any casulalties. Yes i know it sounds crazy but...

Heres some pictures... and yes of courses i need to fix some minor details.

My machinist will be making a piece to fill the gap between inside diameter of the sight and the barrel and will be covering the part that needs to covered.

That same piece will also have a hole to punch a retaining pin into the barrel the same way the original vz58 front sight block does.

I also shown him the magpul ak47 zhukov stock vs the vz58 receiver and he will be making an adaptor to install the zhukov stock on the vz58.
Ill make sure that this adaptor will be as solid as possible. Anyway will keep you guys updated with my project.

You should make wooden AK furniture for it to really complete the look... Also, how do you find that muzzle brake, does it reduce the muzzle jump and recoil well ?

Cool!!!!

How does the front sight align with the rear?

REALLY REALLY well.... so much better than expected.

The front sight i bought doesnt look that cheap at all even if i sourced it from an airsoft website. It's all solid metal and the front sight pin is adjustable! appears to be copy of the actual original ak74 front sight but cant tell exactly.

didnt had the chance to try it yet waiting for my zhukov stock adaptor then ill get to the range. Its a D-force muzzle brake from zahal.

forgot to mention even if i got this one, i just ordered the corwin ak74 style muzzle brake.

who said vz58 was a red rifle? heres some pictures of my unfinished build.

bad photoshoping right there.

Yes it looks a little bit weird with long barrel and the short gas adapter. I would like to find a way to change that.. Anyone has ideas? parts? ill make the rest with my friend if i need to.

I also would like to get a Kobra red dot sight or something similar. I was thinking about C-more red dot.. They are about 4.75" OAL.. which is longer than the CSA side mount rail itself.. so Except a railed dust cover im stuck there.

Got the ak74 muzzle brake style from corwin just in case i like it better than the Dforce muzzle brake. IMO these are the two best looking muzzle devices for vz58.. But the ak74 brake make it looks definitely longer.
dont know how they perform yet.

i want to adapt is the magpul Zhukov stock.. I want to make a block adapter with my machinist depends If RS regulate comes with there adapter anytime soon.
Also need to finish adapting the front sight to the barrel and the cleaning rod under the barrel.

Feel free to share thoughts, advices and opinions please!

It gets a bit more complicated when you start messing with the dynamics of the piston assembly. You start to chance your reliability and possibly even function. The short stroke is commonly known as a large improvement over the AK, which is part of the reason I turned my attention to the barrel on my build. It is easier to "hide" the barrel than it is to fix the Pinocchio nose.

Your magpul stock that you have in that picture will not work with RS Regulate stock adaptor. They made their adaptor for the ego magpul variant of the stock. So you will defiantly have to make your own.
