what's your gun?
how long is your barrel?
what's the twist rate?

any of you have K-Hornet? again:

I'm working out how to get some .22 Hornet barrels for my T/C Encore and Pro Hunter. trying to figure out what length and twist rates I want.

I have two 22k hornets, one is a 20" H&R the other a Pro-Hunter action with an 24" Encore barrel. Not sure of the twist but if its important, I'll find out for you.
Both were factory barrels that I had the chambers K'd.
They are pretty accurate but I prefer the Pro-Hunter. I put and ATI adjustable stock on the H&R. The Pro-Hunter is stock synthetic.
Encore and Pro-Hunter barrels are interchangeable.
Hope that helps you out. :d

faster twist is attractive if you want to shoot the heavier bullets, as you can get .224 bullets up to around 75 grains now.

I know, might seem a little silly to shoot something so heavy...but I'd do it for the gits n shiggles of it.

hey Maker, do you have a p/n I can use to look up the Encore barrel?

might have to import one or two through Prophet River... :p

thinking of turning one into a K-Hornet and see how they perform against each other.

and while we're talking about the Hornet, who makes the best brass, dies, etc?

I think their part number is 1767; MGM still makes a custom barrel.
Brass is a constant quest - I have about 2000 rounds at various stages of reload cycle so here's what I have found so far;
Winchester = seem brittle and loose about 2% every reload cycle to cracked necks/base. Good primer pockets.
Remington = good brass, very consistent, good primer pockets.
Hornady = good brass very consistent. Primer pockets starting to get "weak" after 4 re-loads.
PPU (Privi Partizan) = soft and tend to have approx. 5% cracked necks fire forming to 22K. Primer pockets getting loose after 3 reloads. Starting to loose about 5% to primer pockets being too loose after 4 reloads.

Loads have been consistent using 12.5gr W296 under 35gr V-Max. Running some 35gr NTX now with same powder load. OAL is "long" as I use single shot rigs. Very accurate.
Could lighten up the loads but I have great results with it. Was not concerned about brass supply until recently.

Have Redding 22K die set which works fine; Prefer Hornady as that's what most of my other dies are.

Ruger #3 and Browning micro. Both shoot well but the browning is a little better. Most magazine rifles have to short a box to fit any longer than 45gr bullets. The #3 and other singles you can seat the bullet out much farther. My go to are the 37gr double hollow point Calhoon bullets.
