Is there anyone here who has used these for deer hunting? And how fast is too fast for these bullets?

I understand heavier bullets are generally better and I have options up to 220, but was considering these for an antelope hunt with a 3006.
 
If your .30-06 is the common 1:10 twist, I would suggest a heavier bullet.

I don't shoot anything under 180gr and I can stabilize anything up to the 230gr Berger.
 
While others will chime in and sing praises about these bullets I won't.

I shot one deer with one in my wildcat 308Bellm if I remember correctly muzzle velocity was 2620fps.

I don't shoot them at deer anymore slip them in if I see a coyote though.
 
I wouldn't use one on a bet. Lightweight Ballistic Tip bullets are not built for high impact velocities on things you want to eat. Lightweight monometal...I can get behind that. Ballistic Tips in general are fragile bullets...not my idea of hunting bullets when there are so many other good choices out there.
 
I have used them on island deer at close range once. (I loaded the ammunition in error late one night before a hunting trip.) It did the job, the deer was at @ 110 metres away, but I would not have chosen that bullet as my preferred bullet of choice.

150 / 168 / 180 grains units work a lot better, they have the legs for longer range shots and cut through brush better.

Best use them for target / plinking / light / medium varmint round.

You can hunt antelope, deer, moose,caribou, black bear ,the list goes on with a bonded 180gr bullet.

One zero. One rifle. No POI change. Peace of mind. You can just grab your gear and go hunting.

My general purpose hunting load is 55gr H4350 ,180gr Accubond.
 
Don't get me wrong if you can put one of these into the lungs of a deer or if you are skilled enough to take neck shots these bullets will drop deer DRT.
 
I've shot over 20 Sitka blacktail deer with my 22-250 loaded with 55gr Sierra Varminter bullets @ 3660fps never wounded one everyone of them was DRT.

Definitely not the best choice of bullet or cartridge for deer but it works when everything is right.

I recommend this combo as much as I recommend 125gr BT's yes they work but there are far better choices.

I wouldn't use one that light in an 06 on deer.
Used a 200 grain BT out of a 338WM on deer once. Won't be doing that again either!

It should be noted that some folks here may be still riding the bad rap that the BT got in early production. It is tougher than it used to be. But I still wouldn't use a light one in '06 on deer.

I had a similar experience with the BT in the 7mm Wby and 140 gr weight. Bad combination...even at 250 yards.
