Opinions wanted, looking for my first whitetail deer gun, 25-06 or 243, 270 Win

Outperforms it how? Wind drift? Thats comparing projectiles not the cartridge that propels it. Drop to 1000m? Not a chance.

I'm sure someone somewhere is trying to claim their 300 win will equal a 300 rum in an apples to oranges comparison just like you are. And they're coming off just as foolish.
 
You can buy loaded ammo through the Berger website.

In the 300 win mag they load 185 bergers at 3090fps and 230 bergers at 2802fps.

Yes your 300 win mag is more powerful than my 30-06.
Both are excellent big game rifles.

And the 270 win will go down as the greatest deer rifle of them all.
 
Like I said.

It is not better. Can it duplicate and even outperform several factory loads in terms of wind drift ,retained energy and supersonic range, if you load it right, yes.

The 300 Winchester Magnum is a great cartridge. The fact that the .30-06 is not far behind should tell you something.


The .30-06 does not "suck". It is an excellent choice among many for hunting.
 
The issue at hand here is folks came here claiming that the 30-06 Springfield and 270 Winchester "suck"

They're just fine.

Does the deer care? No.

But if you're in Brown bear country, I strongly advise against the 25-06 and the 243 Winchester.

Down the road, If you are planning on hunting anything else bigger than deer, I would advise against those as well.

I'd strongly advise against a 30-06 target rifle shooting Bergers as well.

I am not in brown bear country, I would be using a 220gr Nosler Partition or similar bonded bullet if that was the case while hunting elk or deer.

I made the statement that a .30-06 even with the standard 180gr load, is just fine for deer, moose,caribou, black bear.

It's not the "best" it just doesn't "suck".

If you're in brown bear country, the 243 Winchester and the 25-06 are not a good idea.

Bergers are a dicey bullet at best, at least from what I've read. Just load up some partitions and make sure.
Others will don't bergers, I'm just of the thought that there is no need to mess with and good thing.

Well we have to argue something. Which cartridge is good for whitetail is only good for about 3 pages...we're trying to push this thread past 25 pages.....

I wasn't claiming anything. I told you I know that they both suck. And I know nothing sucks more than a 270.
Also, I hunt deer every year in country that has a lot of bears in it, and have for many, many years. I still use the 243.
I'm shooting deer, not brown bears.

Then there is this: "Anyone who claims the 30-06 is ineffective has either tried one, and found it sucks, or is wittingly commenting on their own marksmanship, and wants something that sucks less."
