So I had my little 10lb salt lick I wanted to drop at the spot I'm hoping to take a deer out of this year and decided to drop it off with my family.

My daughter who is 4 years old was beyond happy to be feeding the deer treats, she held the salt lick and was repeating "going to feed deer treats and come back later to eat deers!" It was so cute.

Anywho we parked the van and started hiking in, when we got about a hundred or so feet off the road away from the van we started hearing the deer alert cough/bark (only reason I know is because of that app we downloaded). To be honest surprised the crap out of me because it was only about 50 ft away hiding just out of sight from were we stood.

Anywho the hike takes a grown man at a decent clip about 20 minutes to get to... about 45 minute round trip... we were back in there for 2 hours poking around my son (18 months old) was squealing playing in the meadow and the entire time we were back in there we were listening to these deer coughs following us around. My wife loved the area and wants to camp there as well lol.

When we finally got back to the van we saw a nice 2 point little white tail buck about 200ft down the road. Then about a 10 minute drive farther down we saw a Muley buck (young one)

Anywho felt like sharing the experience twas a nice day the entire trip took roughly 3.5 hrs packed a picnic etc twas great

I love walking in the bush during off season. Seeing deer and other wildlife always reconnects me to nature and my love of the outdoors. Kudos to you for introducing another generation to a great Canadian past time.

Frolicking in the meadow down here means getting covered in poison ivy lol. I'm pretty allergic to it and it sucks!

Sounds like a fun time with the kids. I love getting mine out in the bush, we don't do it enough living in a town sucks.

Yea I do say being outside of cell reception and walking through the Bush is just about the best stress reliever out there. The bonus is the kids slept like logs last night from all the hiking :)

We saw ducks, squirrels, groundhogs, allegedly saw a rabbit too (the girls). My hunting buddy lives in port Coquitlam and is always itching to get out in the wilderness. So since yesterday was eid for us I sent him a picture of deer scat and wished him happy holidays.

My little girl just got back from camping and fishing with my brother on tuesday... Let's just call him uncle Q lol apparently whenever Uncle Q is taking her out it is for fishing. She is taking to the woods like crazy and doesn't miss the technology at all (aside from taking the phone to the a million pictures).

Also it looks like only 1 vehicle had been back in there since the rain hit a few days back. Yet, the road is still nice for the minivan. I have to admit I'm sore today from all that hiking and packing the kids a little ways too.

It's amazing probably only cost $10 in gas and yet it was 3+ hours of fun. Small things in life make the difference.

Sounds like a great time. My kids are 18, 23, and 25. My granddaughter is 4.
We spend a great deal of time walking the woods. It's a good feeling knowing they still want to hang out with dad, at thier ages. The only one we have to "encourage" is my son-in-law, he's a pussy, afraid of his shadow. We're working on it.

Keep those kids close and safe, at the same time let them wander and wonder. Good times to be had.

Frolicking in the meadow means a thorough search that evening for ticks!
