TradeEx had to stop their amazing HOLD policy due to abuse...

My better half has no problems with my hobby or purchases as long as I do not clean parts in the dishwasher, parkerize parts in the kitchen, use the good towels when I wash grease from my hands and now that we moved closer to civilization, test fire anything off the deck.

Sir, you need to negociate on this one.

My newlywed used to have a rule of "one firearm purchase a month or I get $hit" in place. These days I just buy and let her $hit storm me. As for the issue mentioned I agree with the original poster and a few others, that deposits (non-refundable or otherwise) should be reasonable for some stores. But if I'm the store owner, I'd rather sell the item and get 100% of the money for it, and not having items with 10-25% deposit paid and held and not have the money in my pocket. Just my take.

F the wife, get what I want -> Divorce
F the budget, get what I want -> Bankruptcy, and forget about owing house or any appreciable assets.
F the deposit, only want to sell item -> lose potential customers. The 25% is bait, the 75% the net. Tough economy.

F everyone vs. mutual respect and communication.

That's funny.

What about houses? Or F250's?

Totally different story really , guns GENERALLY (lol) don't cost $300,000 plus or $50,000 plus dollars.
A guy might not have these above money amounts on hand but $500-$2000 for a gun he should. And if not that's what credit cards are perfect for really.

Hold option is a great tool.

I see no reason why TradeEx cannot use one and follow simple rules: (a) have a hold option fee/non-refundable deposit and (b) have a time limit for hold. For example, pay 25% and have a hold for 3 or 6 months (depending on a price or item).

And what happens when the 3 or 6 months runs out?

A) Refund the guy's deposit, and put the gun back up for sale? Tradex is wasting valuable time and space for nothing.

B) Keep the guy's deposit and put it in their pocket? Now they'll be getting called crooks on the CGN forum.

I agree with Dexter here. And if TradeEx does keep the non-refundable deposit, they will still be called names, or if I'm in TradeEx's shoes I'll feel sorry or even guilty keeping the money because the buyer couldn't afford it.

If I am any example... I caved and just bought it. (LOL).

Now I have to sell something to make room.... both in the safe and the total $$ invested in guns.

That's probably the better choice. Too many times I have sold X to buy Y only to find that Y wasn't working for me and I wanted X back. If the budget can withstand a little overlap you can avoid having to buy the same gun again. Been there, done that more than once.

sounds like a way to make some money for some investing person. offer to buy rifle with 50% down at a 10% mark up, set time to complete payment or forfeit funds. hmmmm

Congratulations.. What did you buy??

It's a Brno ZKK-601 in .222... This model has a built in pop-up peep sight on the rear receiver ring (very cool)... It has integral scope dovetails too... Nice package. I will scope it eventually as I try to wring out the 222 accuracy, but I'll keep it scopeless for a long while. It was a bit more than I'd like to pay, but what the hell... I've been looking for a 222 for a while.

So, if they cancelled their on hold policy, are the ones currently on hold going to be freed up to let others have a shot at buying them? There are a couple husky 98's in 8x57 that I would buy but are on hold...with a price of 350!?. Seriously if you have to layaway a $350 rifle...ah never mind .

Ya there a winchester 1300 I want for 295$ it's ON HOLD.....what peasant puts a 295$ shotgun on hold.....it's 2016.......295$ is like $2.95 what a joke

With everything so expensive these days 300 bucks is what one would expect to find in most folk's wallet these days. Hold on 3 grand is one thing but 300???
